those arent the 3 base colors...

red, yellow and blue are

they can be mixed to make any color under the sun...

red+yellow = orange
yellow + blue = green

and so on

That's substractive colour mixing, that's with paint. Then the base colours are blue/cyan, magenta and yellow (and black & white for paint).
We're talking light here. Monitors/computers work with additive colour mixing. The base colours of light are red, green and blue.

Here's some links for ya:

traditional knowledge comes in handy, but not in this case

though with subtractive you are working with pigments that arent necessarily CMYK ink lol. You cant print bright red with CMYK, but somehow my apple still is, whats up with that? lol.

HaLLanHype did make me think though. Tried something out: mixing the hair colour using substractive mixing. This needs you to draw 5 layers, a negative cyan, negative yellow, negative magenta, negative key and a base layer (to prevent plain white hair). This is a lot less then drawing all possible colors we want in the game, which is currently ten. And it allows a lot more freedom for the players and more variation in their looks.

Here's a screenshot from the xcf file with it's layers. All layers modes, except the bottom one, are set to multiply. The Base layer's mode is set to normal.

I tried making the colours in Adaria's post on page 6 of this thread using this method:

I think with some editing of the colour layers they could look even better, because I don't like the highlights enough with some colours. Believe me, this already looks a lot better then colourising.

Still it's magenta, cyan and yellow. It doesn't work with red and blue. But no matter. :)
And yes, you got me thinking.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION:

Hello, I made one more new hairstyle. The color is in light blue for detail. Modanung and/or Adarias can make the colors since they seem to know them better. Here are my hairstyles all together so far:

The newest one is at the bottom if you haven't figured it out.
Hope you like 'em!

END OF TRANSMISSION
I love you too. :)

i am still missing the good old squaresoft classic: spiky hair hold up by a bandana.

The hairstyle the main chars from Secret of Mana 1 or Chrono Trigger have.

Haha, yeah, I want to make that hairstyle next. :P

Last time I attempted to make that hairstyle (which was long ago) it came out totally wrong from what I wanted (I wasn't sure if I should have included the bandana with the hair or not). I forgot all about it until now.
Thanks for the reminder.
I love you too. :)
