[REQ] Several items

Hi everyone,

I would like to request inventory icons (32x32) for the following:
  • lump of clay
  • silver bell
  • A mystical tablet
  • magic scroll
  • A wind monster in a bottle (see Wind Monster request)
  • An unwieldly-looking black sword
  • An ingot (dyeable)
  • An egg-shaped cactus (no visible roots or otherwise; it should look like a `cactus egg')
  • A natural-looking amulet made out of wood and string and leaves
If you are starting to work on it and think that you have a good idea of how to do so, please say so in here to reduce unnecessary duplicity.

Thank you very much in advance! :-)

Jumpy,

good start! Two things:
First, you're going for maximum size here. Try to make it a little smaller.
Secondly, your separating lines indicate three segments-- at least the back segment should be darker, due to our lighting.

I do like your approach to texturing it, though. :-)

Probally not what you need for a silverbell, but this is as best as I could do in six shades of gray and a little alpha.

Hi,

Fother J: Excellent work. Have you checked whether it looks OK without an outline, though? (Otherwise it would be great if you could add one.)

Jumpy: Your #4 is definitely going in the right direction, except for three things:
  • It's too big, though I like the shape (32x32 is the maximum icon size; the size of your image implies that the lump is huge).
  • The right-hand side is too bright and has too strong a gradient
  • The left-hand side is shaded too evenly
Your gradient for the top partition implies a dent, that one is fine. Your gradient for the right-hand side, though, starts out at the maximum brightness-- but the right-hand side doesn't face the light directly at all, so it should be darker overall.

I've marked up the left-hand side in three colours. The red and blue areas are only slightly towards the direction of the light, so they should be a darker shade of grey than the green area, which is facing almost directly towards the light.

Of course, your clay has a very rough surface, which means that it gets a lot of ambient light (hence the contrast will not be greater than what you have there right now.)

fate,

Thanks a lot for your comments and directions to work on it tomorrow morning i'll go back to the lump as it is already 2 am here. Jumpy GO TO SLEEP !

i looked precisely to the bell and understand better the size needed. i don't feel entering in a depression and try not to be ashamed showing my drawings when i see the art work done on the bell.

I made a test on the amulet.
Regarding your comments on the lump i am sure already it is too big in size and much more work as to be done on it in shape, colors (too bright, not enought wood colors like) and lights.

Anyway those are my first steps in the pix art word (sorry for your eyes  ) so if it gives any idea to someone that is a real artist (as Fother or Meway or Don or pateame or EJlol list is too long) please feel free to take the idea and have a good art pix with it.
I won't ask you for any compensation (joke) .

Thanks again

Regards

This is a busy topic. Should graphic artists start a new thread for their item and just link it in this thread?

Either approach is fine.

Jumpy: your selection of colours is good for the amulet, and you did well with the clay texture, so don't give up! :-) For the amulet, note that we already have an established standard (http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6749, the second image) as to what amulets should look like. For this one, an organic but somewhat symmetric shape (bent branches / roots and leaves, perhaps resembling a blossom) seems most promising.

Is this the type of icon you were thinking of? :)

Freeyorp,

it should match the wind monster spritesheet (once there is one). What you have here looks great to me, provided that it resembles the monster in the end. ;-)
