  • corrected light direction
  • replaced black outline with dark grey
  • lightened the scrolled area to accentuate the curves
  • some minor anti-aliasing within the texture
Last step is the alpha'ed edges. I'm not sure how to do that, could someone help me with that?

Adamaix,

I've tried to alpha the borders by first slightly thickening them and then alphaing the pixels at 50%, 40%, 30%, 20% and 10% depending on how exposed they were individually.

What's your opinion?

Edit: Looking at it again, I don't like what I did, as the cuts and the raggedness are too obscured now. Feel free to give it a try yourself, otherwise I'll try again later today. (By the way, your scroll is excellent now!)

Jumpy,

clay revision 10 has good shading, but it looks as if it had been photographed with long exposure in the dark by a camera that wasn't meant for this kind of photography: it's very grainy.

Fate, your alpha'd version looks fine, I've redone the texture slightly to remove the three layered look, and made the shades blend in smoothly.

Thank you all for your help and direction :)

Adamaix,

this item is ready to go, I think. Thank you for your hard work! :-)
(It looks a lot better than the scrolls from the thread Crush pointed to initially, in case anyone believes that we forgot to check that one. ;-)

If you'd like, you can add some of the symbols I mentioned earlier to create variants of this scroll. Of course, there are many other little things I could use help with! :-)

Either approach is fine.
It's easier for me to track stuff when the requests, work being done and results stay in the same thread.

That aside, the fire scroll presented is the best scroll proposition we've had so far.

If anything made from the lump of clay in any way resembles the material here, I'd say it's good enough of a match. (Even if it does not really exactly look like clay, we just need a some kind of a representation of it in the end and this one does not look ugly per se.)

Thanks Rotonen,

Would you have prefer a round one ?
or...
please post a picture of your thoughts, i'll try to improve what i did so that it fits better to a representation of a lump clay.

Thanks again

Swimmy,

I'm sorry, but the image is very much lacking in definiteness. Perhaps it might be best to start with the photograph you started out with, scale it down, and study its properties before trying to draw it? That's what I did for the pearl image.

Hi,

First of all, hank you very much, everyone who has volunteered/and or contributed so far! :-D

Here are the item grahpics requests that are still open:
  • Lump of clay
  • Ingot (dyeable)
  • Egg-shaped cactus (or cactus-textured egg?)
  • A heavy and impractical-looking black-ish sword
  • A mystical/magical clay tablet (not old-looking, though)
The following also need help:

Potentially finished:
  • Silver bell (Fother J)
  • Bottled wind monster (Freeyorp)
  • Scroll (Adamaix)
  • Amulet (fate)

Good work everyone! ^__^

I especially like the Enchanters’ Amulet, it is immensily beautiful and really suits the Nature element. I keep having this vision of a dragonfly.

(The green is a bit hard to see against the grass, but the item in itself is not, so it is absolutely okay, especially since the green is the green.)
