Trying to find the status of this tune for possible use. I think i know i could not use the recording itself, but maybe... I've tried 2 different online services, both giving me no info.

Tossing it out here, knowing others are more used to finding this stuff.

I dont need it right now, but i dont want to ask at the last minute either.

Thanks in advance for any effort

You mean the copyright status? The author says in the description that it can be used.

Thanks for the help, i will add it to my list.

Trying to learn with this question, so it is not that i dont think you are right. Is this text what tells you that? "Due to Youtube's changing and unfair new policies this channel has been retroactively demonetized."

If so, I am glad I asked, because i thought that said he wasnt getting paid for views anymore.

Down more i see this about another of his and it is clear to me.

Artist: Magnus Ringblom
Title: Chefs From Around The World

Can I use it? - Yes (non-monetized)

Again, thank for the help and quick reply.

It looks to me like this refers to this specific track in the video. I'd take that as being along the lines of CC BY-SA 4.0 in the sense that it's marked by the author as being useable for non-profit purposes.

They should really consider using official licenses like Creative Commons to make the status of their works clearer, but this is still clear enough IMO and it looks like the channel isn't active anymore so they probably don't need the advice anyway.

This is an update on the subject.

With a lot of searching and a little help, I found contact info for "Soul Candle". I sent a nice(to me anyway) note praising the music, thanking "him" for releasing "Lanterns At Night" for free use and telling where and how we might use the music.

I did not get back the reply i expected. I will use my words, as the ones i got are not fit to put here. First, it is not free to use, and sort of says the rights are owned by someone else anyway. Second, "Chefs From Around The World " is another URL and not connected to this one. Third, suggests reading, https://www.forbes.com/sites/fruzsinaeo ... 21b9d6ca90. After reading it, i do understand better and so posted it for you.

So legally, i can 25 seconds or so, but don't think i want to now.

With some respect,
Moebird

I've been to a lot of free sound sites. There are next to none that supply all the required license info.
https://freesound.org/, was the only one I ever had much luck with. If you find something you like, but want it altered or remastered, just send a PM. There are many things on that site that need a bit of cleaning first, if only balancing the panning.

Actually it sounds more like CC BY-NC to me :?
