[WIP] Some SFX

Post by feline monstrosity »

I just checked out this page: http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/SFX and made a few that were missing.

I've done attack sounds for the poison and fire skulls and a sound effect for cutting plants/herbs.

I created this whilst trying to make a swing ound for the sword, but I'm not sure if it sounds exactly like a swing.

Poison FX is good. The swing sounds more like a connecting hit as there's a thud in it... (see attached pic) deleting this portion that's highlighted will take away the sense of impact that's currently present. I would also experiment with EQ to see what sounds best...?

The Fire Attack is a good capture and the right approach I think, depending on the graphical representation of the action. Might be good to create a pitch rise and fall in the middle of the file at the loud point? This gives it a bit more dynamic.

I'm very new at making sound effects, so I definitely need to work on my technique.

We're lacking a huge amount of sound effects in the game. Any work on them is very much appreciated.

Designing the usage of the effects is an another question, though. (A cluttered soundscape is a horrible experience to the players.)

Hey, it's a very good first attempt. My first attempts weren't great and I'm also relatively new, just started looking at this around the beginning of the year.

But I happen to have a wealth of good texts on hand on the subject which I've been delving into when I get the chance. For me, the trickiest part isn't making the sound, but deciding what the best type of sound is to accompany the action in question, you can take it so many different directions...

The sound documentaries included in the Lord of the Rings movies DVDs are an ear opening watch.

I read a few guides on the internet before making these. I'll try and check out those documentaries.

There seems to be a problem with that patch. First off, it's missing your email. Second, we do prefer real names, though we won't force it. Third, we've had problems applying it.

Can you add your email and remake the patch?

tell me how to fix it as the patching process is a little over-complicated.
