I would like to point out that overweight notice can be really annoying, because it appears in the center of the screen and can kill you when you're in critical situations. The problem is worse for archers, in wich case may happen that the message appears again and again because you becomes overweighted by collecting items and then you lose weight quickly by throwing arrows, and so on.
I think it would be better to replace the dialog box with an icon in the upper left corner as for spells, maybe a flashing and visible .but that does not block your view.
