Spawning of maggots

Post by georgm »

I had this tiny idea about the spawning of the maggots. Wouldn't it be nice if they would just crawl up out of the sand? I think it would be very cool, sort of realistic and wouldn't require a lot of drawing.

There already is a graphic for this laying around:

but the current animation system doesn't allow spawn animations. Maybe the new animation system will:

I think most monsters should have an animation like this. Flowers and shrooms growing from the ground, ghosts appearing... etc.
Neoriceisgood made a nice appearing animation for the slime:

I suppose we can and will use it too?

Yes, we'll have that. Best way to have fluent special effects.
But it doesn't have high priority as can be seen in the roadmap on the wiki. It states there that the particle engine is planned for version 0.1.x, so that would be after we move to the new server.

When you, Modanung, would write your promised article about the UT particle system you admire so much, it could maybe come a little bit earlier.

Well thanks to Crush and Doener efforts you can check the attachables branch where there's a start for a simple particle engine. It could happen before the switch to the new server, since they're unrelated.
