How should emotes behave?

Got something on your mind about the project? This is the correct place for that.

How should emotes behave?

Post by Jenalya »

On IRC, a discussion came up of how the particle effects for the emotes should behave. We already agreed on a longer lifetime, but are unclear about wether it should move.
At the moment the emotes appear and move up while fading out. Another possibility could be that they just appear above the head and fade out after a while, without moving (similiar to how it looks in manaplus).

I personally prefer the second, but since it's a matter of taste, I'd like to get an impression of what others like.

What's your opinion? Please vote and post below. :)

Edit: If you vote for 'Something different', please also comment and explain what you'd like.

Changed my mind a little. I would like them to float up and just as they fade out to turn into a puff of smoke. Nami mentioned this and I like it.

There is so much more you could be doing with the particle engine. Like making them bounce. Or make the emotes behave differently depending on what they are expressing.

Making them bounce doesn't sound very nice. I like the current particle effect and I here my new one that makes them fade away a bit slower. This is of course an example and should be used for all emotes.

I kinda like the emotes on manaplus, they appear then dissapear after a certain amount of time. The ones on the official client dont stay long enough imo.
