re: Bulk Email from tmw.net

Got something on your mind about the project? This is the correct place for that.

I don't see the point of a mass e-mail. Why just not put it on the news in the client. That way everyone (who still play) will see it, maybe with a link to a longer statement if you feel that it is needed.

Only people who connect to the real server see the real news. After I complained, Platyna finally switched updates (which includes news) to her own host.

If TMWC feels the need to send a general notification I do not see why it should not do it. I have set "receive messages from admins" to "yes" at registration time and am aware of what it means. Also bulk mailing is not spam (no more than @broadcast in game). On the message topic I agree with Sanity though
I do not vote because this is TMWC responsibility. I also think that, at the moment, there is no possible confusion between .org and .net; It may come later...

At the moment, there is a lot of confusion, because .net is still a clone of the original .org.

You can't call it a clone since it seems there's nothing legally acceptable about the owner.

So you agree that .net isn't legal?

I rather meant that apparently, none of both is legal...

Edit : I meant the "owner of the project's files". Sorry for confusion.

Keep it on topic please. Legalities of either server have nothing to do with the topic. This is asking the players if a single bulk email would be acceptable or a good idea. Feel free to expand on why or why not, but discussion of which server is valid or legal should remain in another thread.

I voted yes. I think it should be used more often, this mass email, if it relates to the topic of the game or server. How is it spam if it's something someone wants?

Also, I'm happy playing here, and I'm happy playing there. If this one is successful, then why worry about the other? If the other was successful, what difference would it ultimately make? Seriously? It's a game, yes? For recreation and enjoyment. Does there have to be war in everything we do?

Just don't mail me anything regarding viagra or plynpom enlargements...nor sell me shares in Nigerian McDonalds...I've had enough of these types of emails. I mean how am I even meant to eat a burger at Nigerian McDonalds, when the plane ticket isn't included in the cost of a burger?
A.K.A "_speiros_", by a mistake I made...lol

Do we really?

1. Platynas spam mail was weeks ago. It's a bit late to react
2. As you can see from this thread, such a course of action would be highly controversial
3. Looking at the user numbers, Platynas spam campaign wasn't successful anyway
  • former Manasource Programmer
  • former TMW Pixel artist
  • NOT a game master

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Oh nice to see my posts are being deleted.

And glad to see a moderator of forums has no idea what is a spam and defines it as sending emails to people with their consent (as they have enabled them in their profiles).

It is hard to call one email a campaign. However it was very successful - as we got serveral people working on content development now, and one person working to revert the changes that caused eA to malfunction since years because you had to play with C++ and Pyton. While your development sections looks more like a chat about "should we take away Platyna's items? Pls, do, I wanna dat dress".

Another thing - you are a copy of mine server not otherwise, and deleting the posts stating that will not change the fact.

Regards.

If you mean posts from the last week, we have a filesystem issue (not unlike what we had regularly on your server) and had to rollback everything.

Would be nice if this thread could go on topic again (and stop spamming my feedreader with useless stuff (since this thread is an announcement it is in all forum feeds))
