I think me and chayenne both noticed it, the difficulty was on medium (Valia: This will be quite dangerous, but do your best and save my sister!) and we didn't get any secondary rewards, just money.
i know it was changed ages ago from 3 common items at easy 5 at medium and 7 at hard, to 0 rewards at easy 1 reward at medium and 2 rewards on hard. was there another change?

The messages Valia says when the quest starts give a hint about the difficulty you'll have to deal with. They are not directly linked to the rewards you'll get.
