I agree, btw, that being able to use everything as a weapon is a rather silly idea, that adds a lot of work and causes unnecessary game complexity.

"Anything is a weapon" style gameplay would be great in some games, but I agree that they're pretty unnecessary in a battle-oriented RPG. If a player doesn't have a weapon, they can use their fists until they have sufficient cash to buy one, or get a quest weapon, or decide that they just like beating their enemies up. In comparison to the damage inflicted by weapons (or trained fists), the damage dealt by everyday objects would be pretty miniscule. That said, in a single-player adventure game, wherein you don't always have weapons at hand and can't easily become a kung fu master through practice, enabling the user to grab anything and wield it would be fantastic.
