Got something on your mind about the project? This is the correct place for that.

Language Filter

Post by Arilious »

Would it be possible to implement a language filter, for swear words that have no place in the game? It's not that I personally find them offensive, but some may, especially if there are somewhat more impressionable minds playing. Jsut a suggestion.

Language filters are easy to trick by substituting le7ters w1th numb3rs, adding a_d_d_i_t_i_o_n_a_l c-h-a-r-a-c-t-e-r-s between L E T T E R S, or just mispeling the words, but they involve unnecessary ha**le because of false positives during normal chatting.

In the end they do not stop anyone from swearing but are an annoyance for people engaging in normal conversations. I once played a game where it was impossible to ask if someone wants to buy the "Bastard Sword" you just found. People started calling it "the forbidden weapon" ;)

Also blatant censorship sucks. There is no rule that forbids swearing, since I see no reason to pretend more saint than a pope, there is just a rule forbidding abuse of other people (that does not include sissies, that are insulted when one says in their presence the f-word)

Regards.

It wasn't my invention. Honestly, no idea who has set it.

Bumped for a discussion on censorship. It is clear the ruling has been "f.u.c.k. sissies" but then the narc squad is running around threatening players with reports and demanding their version of niceness.
Current character is "Abolish".
