Solid starting town

I've seen lots of talk (on the wiki, irc, etc) about expanding the world to be a lot bigger, and I'm all for that. But I'd like to see the starting town to become a lot more developed.
Like say a merchat that sells cactus drinks and things like that, the miner that sells the miner gear is great, but maybe there should be a weapon merchant that sells the bow instead as well as sharp knives or something? Maybe even with their own little buildings.
I really like the whole thing the Miner Guy has going on where he's at the entrance and sells some miner gear. I think we need more NPC's with a solid image and apparent personality like that to give the starting town a feeling like it has a community of people that actually live there and have jobs.
