auctions

The Mana World is missing the option to sell items on public sale.

For this reason I suggest to implement an auction house, where players can put in items, select the auction duration and the minimum bid. other players should be able to bid for these items then.
There also should be an instant buy option, which can but needn't be set.
When creating such a place there could be an option to set an instant buy option without an auction.

Planned, but not the thing we're currently working on.

i think this auction house is a nice idea, and one suggest i give to inprove these auctions is like this: you put your iten for sell, and if someone buys it, you have to pay 5-10% of it's price to the npc, so this way it'll be easy to sell your itens but it'll have a cost.. :P
just a suggestion

We plan on having an auction system in Mana(serv) in a release or two.

Which, surprisingly enough, is an auction system.

Although an auction house would be a very comfortable way to trade items I dislike that it is so impersonal.

I would like to design it in a way that it does not completely kill the personal haggling between player and player.

While haggling is good, an auction house would get rid of the DREADED TRADE SPAMMING N00BS!

TradeBot works as a temporary 'auction house', despite the fact you can't bid, but still, its better than nothing, even though it doesn't get rid of trade spamming n00bs, as I find that n00bs love trade spamming whenever TradeBot isn't on. :(

Yeah, I kind of figured that out when I was about, oh, I don't know, SEVEN!!!

Are these planned auction houses, automated? Bot type vending machines (like TradeBot)? or is this planned to be completely manual (player based).

.....

Adding to Necromon's comment, we is assume this was a sanctioned area for "spam trading" of sorts. I think it'd be a good ideal to leave some sort of post it board (one per player) so players can click on these boards to view what someone is selling.
No need to keep shouting out what your selling, if anyone wants to buy something they head to this auction house/trade house.

Again I realize the need for watching these new boards, or the programing involved to do such, but these are just ideals.

The current server we're using is called eAthena. The server we'll be using long term is Manaserv.
