[FND] Skeleton key

Post by nmaligec »

It would be awesome if someone can whip up a 32x32 inventory icon for a skeleton key. Think normal key with a skull at the top. It doesn't have to be too fancy, just as long as it is different from the treasure chest key (which I will be using as a placeholder until the gfx are done).

I like the pixel work by Salmondine better, but the one by Skipy has a more fitting color palette, in my opinion.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

i agree with Crush,
i spent 5-10 min on it(looks rushed)...

salmondine's could use more of a "bone" feel too (yellows and blues) imo ...its fitting to other icons in game..

please finish is key...

btw-some where there is a key thats done..was going to be part of the halloween stuff that never was  ...

I like both a lot. The proportions on salmondine's are a little more balanced though. To test the idea, I took the palette from skipy's and applied it to salmondine's. Here is the result, which looks pretty good. Sal if you get the chance could you finish off your original using this palette?

skipy, here is a shrunken down version. Unfortunately some of the great detail on the skull is gone. This should give a better idea of the proportions I need.

Salmondine:

I'd say bang, dead on!

Unless there is anything else, I think this is finished. I'll be adding this to the test repo soon.

Is it called the skeleton key because it's made of bone and has a skull on, or because it's one of these?

If the former, please rename it to Skull Key or somesuch, because for Hallowe'en I'm possibly going to modify and resurrect the original one for last year - which used a skeleton key in the latter sense. If it's the latter, don't worry about it - the event needs major modifications anyway.

meway: wow that is a really good key! I like the size, it matches the majority of inventory items. You managed to keep enough detail and still get is small. I wish the were some more guidelines on icon sizes besides that they have to be less than 32x32 px. Maybe there are some standards set somewhere, though I have not seen them.

I do like the extra detail that salmondine's key has, and I think I will go with that one for the crypt (fits the style).

poison_ivy: You are right it should be a skull key since it is for a specific door. I just thought ppl would be more familiar with 'skeleton' key and decided to use that. Because you have a specific use for a skeleton key, I will switch its name to skull key (more appropriate anyway).

Actually its not a really good key. It does not follow any of the tmw guidelines. I fixed it up a bit in this new version below. Feel free to use this one.

Changes: detail and smaller color pallet.

salmondine has a better start on the key. ;)

I noticed meway's doesn't have a transparent background. meway's key does fit well with the small color palettes and sparse pixel style of most of the other items. I am tending towards salmondine's, though, especially since it has transparency. I can't quite decide, so I was hoping for some feedback on which one people would rather see in game.

Here is the updated version of meway. I only cleaned the backround, if that can help...
