Weights and Measures Names

Post by Wombat »

It has come up that we could use more unique names for weights and measurements offered in units.xml. Currently there is "GP" for money and g/kg for weight. Since our weights are more fantasy measurements, it would make sense to find something other that grams and kilograms. Money is commonly called gold pieces in many, if not most fantasy games. Suggested changes are welcome, but please avoid taking from other games (gil from Final Fantasy comes to mind as an example not to use, for example).
Current character is "Abolish".

Weight: base unit: Meg, 1000 unit : Heg.

Somebody has better? ;)

For the money base it could be good to avoid name starting from 'K', as player use 'k' for 1000GP and 'kk' or 'm' for millions. Some peoples could got a problem with that ^^

Player1 : I sell my knife for 100K
Player2 : What?!! 100 000?!

The unit names aren't hardcoded anymore, but defined in the units.xml content file. Every server can use its own names.

I never meant that it will be 'hardcoded on the server', but the idea of using it for tA and Manaserv based game which wish to use it would be good.

Hi,

Reidy has got a point ^^

Instead of Kunas, why not Loon(s), for instance?

Has someone better to propose?

Best regards.

In my opinion money should remain "gp" its common and people can get right away what it is and what its used for. BUT if it had to change i would consider sterlings, since it is used for pieces of silver and gold. :)

Why are you bumping this thread without anything to add?

I didn't get news from Wombat about it, so I bumped to know if anything was decided, or if you just want to forget it in the forum.
