Until now the only consequences of choosing Dark path are penalties - no astral magic (no asorm) and very expensive nature spells (Wyara estimates that assasinate Mouboo and cut the Druid Tree Branch is unforgivable and refuses speaking).

So there is no choice.

I would propose a choice based on my Might&Magic 7 gaming experience - the storyline is exactly about a choice between Light and Dark side.

Perhaps it will inspire some dev :)

In Might&Magic 7 universe a caster goes trough 4 levels of knowledge (Skill) in any school of magic:

Normal
Expert
Master
Grandmaster

to be referred as: N,E,M,G and Spell Points as SP.

Light spells:

Dispel Magic SP cost 15

N: Dispel all spells on all creatures in sight
E: Fast recovery time
M: Faster recovery time
G: Fastest recovery time

Destroy Undead SP cost 10

N: Inflicts 16+(1-16 per Skill Level) points of damage to target creature, undead only
E: Fast recovery time
M: Faster recovery time
G: Fastest recovery time

Light Bolt SP cost 5

N: Inflicts 1-4 points of damage per Skill Level to target creature x2 against undead
E: Fast recovery time
M: Faster recovery time
G: Fastest recovery time

Paralyze SP cost 20

N: Paralyzes target creature for three minutes per Skill Level
E: Fast recovery time
M: Faster recovery time
G: Fastest recovery time

Day of the Gods SP cost 30

N: N/A
E: Increases all stats of your character by 3xSkill Level
M: Increases all stats of your character by 4xSkill Level
G: Increases all stats of your character by 5xSkill Level

Summon Elemental SP cost 25

N: N/A
E: Summons a Lesser Light Elemental, duration is 5 minutes, one at a time
M: Summons a Light Elemental, duration is 15 minutes, three at a time
G: Summons a Greater Light Elemental, five at a time

Day of Protection SP cost 40

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: Cast all resistance and protection spells at 4xSkill Level
G: Cast all resistance and protection spells at 5xSkill Level

Hour of Power SP cost 45

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: Cast all boosting and some protection spells at 4xSkill Level
G: Cast all boosting and some protection spells at 5xSkill Level

Prismatic Light SP cost 35

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: Inflicts 25+Skill Level points of damage to all creatures in sight, may only be used indoors
G: Fast recovery time

Sunray SP cost 50

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: Inflicts 20+(1-20 per Skill Level) points of damage to a single creature, must be cast outside and during the day
G: Moderate recovery time

Divine Intervention

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: N/A
G: Restores all Hit Points and Spell Points and cures all adverse condition your party is suffering, caster is aged 10 years

Dark Spells:

Reanimate SP cost 10

N: Returns slain target to life as a zombie who will fight for you until is killed or you leave the map, zombie will have 20 Hit Points per Skill Level up to their normal maximum
E: zombie will have 30 Hit Points per Skill Level up to their normal maximum
M: zombie will have 40 Hit Points per Skill Level up to their normal maximum
G: zombie will have 50 Hit Points per Skill Level up to their normal maximum

Shrinking Ray SP cost 25

N: Shrinks a monster, decreasing the damage it inflicts by 1/2
E: Damage inflicted is reduced to 1/3
M: Damage inflicted is reduced to 1/4
G: Can shrink a group of monsters

Toxic Cloud SP cost 15

N: Fires a slow moving toxic cloud in front of you that lasts until it hit something, inflicts 25+(1-10 per Skill Level) points of damage
E: Fast recovery time
M: Faster recovery time
G: Fastest recovery time

Vampiric Weapon SP cost 20

N: Bestows a nonmagical weapon with the "Vampiric" enchantment, duration is one hour per Skill Level
E: Fast recovery time
M: Faster recovery time
G: Enchantment is permanent

Control Undead SP cost 35

N: N/A
E: Target - undead creature - becomes friendly and attacks creatures hostile to you for 3 minutes per Skill Level
M: Durations is 5 minutes per Skill Level, faster recovery time
G: Lasts until you leave the map, fastest recovery time

Pain Reflection SP cost 40

N: N/A
E: Reflects 100% of damage taken to the attacker (who inflicted damage), duration is 1 hour + 5xSkill Level minutes
M: Works on entire party
G: Duration is 1 hour + 15xSkill Level minutes

Shrapmetal SP cost 30

N: N/A
E: Fires five fragments of hot metal in front of you, each fragment inflicts 6 + (1-6 per Skill Level) points of damage
M: Fires seven fragments, faster recovery time
G: Fires nine fragments, fastest recovery time

Armageddon SP cost 55

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: Inflicts 50 + Skill Level points of damage to ALL creatures on the map, must be cast outdoors, not more then 3 times per day
G: Not more then 4 times per day

Dragon Breath SP cost 50

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: Inflicts 1-25 points of damage per Skill Level to target creatures and all surrounding creatures, including you if you are too close
G: Moderate recovery time

Sacrifice SP cost 45

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: Slays a single hireling*, caster recovers all Hit Points and Spell Points, is cured of all adverse conditions, and any magical aging is dispelled. Casting this spell will decrease the party reputation greatly
G: Moderate recovery time

Souldrinker SP cost 60

N: N/A
E: N/A
M: N/A
G: Drains 25 + (1-8 per Skill Level) Hit Points from every creature in sight and distributes it among the party

Of course, there is some "translation" needed when importing things from one universe to another, but i think it should not be too complicated. M&M 7 party can be very well - for example - translated to TMW party, giving it much more sense and interest in the same time, because of healing effects or hit points sharing (Mardek RPG) affecting whole party, *hireling can be translated to any creature Sagatha like, and bad reputation can cause the same effect as in M&M 7 - the good NPCs stop talking with you.

This is meant to be some inspiration, nothing more. I hope you enjoyed.

I would like to try to do some spell you imagined, but actually I've got some problem with the PC that got the server.
Also, about dark-astral magic, I did two spell, one for summon bats and another one, more funny that spawn Archant (ID: 1060), but these Archant can help you with the killing of monster / Player ( :twisted: ) and randomly (1/3) to injured their Caster, and this caster will have to run very fast :twisted: .

I can try to translate my ideas to scripts, but honestly i never was a programmer, only program tester, and many years ago. So i have some very shy memories about C++, and i am a very beginner as terminal user, it will take much time, probably someone will do before me :)

P.S.: Great spells you are talking about! I would love to summon spiders :D

Sadly, if you want to test spells, you have to set up a server: And I don't think someone is doing or will do dark-spell, because, actually none is working on new spell since they was added into the game, as I know... :(.
Between, I haven't done C++ yet, didn't use terminal ... but I'm able to do a crappy spell :P .

And My mage is Evil, for the moment be an evil mage is just useless. :cry:

I agree it is sad we haven't Dark Magic. Dark Mage is coolest mage ever :D

Like Darth Vader in Star Wars - hero of my childhood :D
Even music made for him is the best.

OK, i will start by setting up server.
I hope my sandbox is powerful enough, once i have it operational i will try to make my first script.

If in trouble, can i ask you for help?

i recommend irc for getting help with tmw, at least provided that you take the time to research on the wiki and do forum searches related to any problems you run into, chances are other people have had the problem (if you do have one) before.
the irc server is at irc.themanaworld.org port 6667. you'd want to see the #tmw-support channel for help regarding setting up a server, #themanaworld for general game related chat, and #tmw-dev for development related subjects.

Since last post i found one more old PC and installed eathena on it (linux version).
For me everything works fine but fetching online ppl - could not connect to remote host.
Of course i am using server ip.
For the outsiders using my external ip: They can create an account, but then on login a freeze "Requesting characters", then "Error: Could not connect to remote host".

As router i have neufbox, not in router list (i didn't found it) and i am wondering - is it bad router config, or wrong ips in server config files? Or just poor router and i need to change it?

Anyway - ill go walk in the mountains, breathe fresh air and calm down to avoid throwing all my beloved machines by the window, router included, and dancing on them wildly.

Then i will continue :)

Did you try to learn the spells that Sagatha refuse to teach you form the Well in the desert?
If you cuted the tree and killed the mouboo, it will took you and teach you, for money.
Stupids like me that kill a mouboo and heal a tree (or viceversa) we are cursed for life to have magoots that take sunbaths instead of attacking, try the well i think you still have hope there.

After choosing Dark Path no one will teach you astral magic.
Spirit from the Well in the desert is teaching only nature spells (as far as i know).
#asorm is an astral spell and there is no equivalent of #asorm made for the bad guys, that's why i say there is no choice - for now you have only penalties as consequences of choosing Dark Path.

Thank you for learning me there are also the consequences of mixed choice.

Special thanks to Eragon for explaining me in detail how to about port forwarding, configuring router and firewall. After this explanation it becomed operational.

I will but i am still uncertain about build-magic.sh --> ./build-magic.sh and thats it?
I prefer to be sure before i do this, i don't want to blow all work done until now nor accounts created on my server :)

Running build-magic is perfectly fine.

When you run it, it generates (or appends to) a list of spell invocations, called spells-build. If there were no new invocations, it then applies those transformations on magic.conf.template to generate magic.conf.

So, the initial usage is:
  • Run ./build-magic.sh to generate spells-build
  • Edit spells-build
  • Run ./build-magic.sh to generate magic.conf
  • (Re)Start the server
And later:
  • Add new spells to magic.conf.template (The invocation must be of the form "#xyz" for any characters xyz - by custom, the first is school and the second is level)
  • Run ./build-magic.sh to append your new invocations to spells-build
  • Give the new spells invocations in spells-build
  • Run ./build-magic.sh to update magic.conf
  • Restart the server
In particular, never edit magic.conf directly.

I am unable to find info about how to edit spells-build.

s/"#G01"/"#G01"/ became --> s/"#G01"/"#spellname"/ if i understood well, but:

What means G, T, L, W, N, A, T letters ? I mean i guess these are schools of magic but i am unable to associate them with schools.

00 is level 1, 01 is level 2 ?

"G, T, L, W, N, A" stands for: General, Transmutation, Life, War, Nature, Astral

and (I guess)

#G00 would be the first general magic spell, level 0
#G01 would be the second general magic spell, level 0
#G10 would be the first general magic spell, level 1
