Something's wrong. I use 0.5.0 on my Mac, and that has names and icons for all the skills. Names and icons are part of the client updates which are usually downloaded automatically when you log in to server.themanaworld.org (the main server).

I don't know that this will let you create a party, but it might, and it's a problem to solve.
Hmmm i really dont know how to downgrade from 0.5.2 to 0.5 , but at very least i can attempt a reinstall and see if that works.

The other thing im wondering about is if this is an issue with windows, i know i run as admin atm (and if you dont you get serious problems with many programs), what im wondering now is if i ran as admin during the update, if not that could be a problem.

Well ill re-install later today and see if this fixes anything, Ill post my results when im done.

Thank you to both Frost and Lien for helping me, even though i have yet to find a fix your support is GREATLY appreciated!

The Mana client doesn't need to be run as admin. You can run it as a normal user.

It is a bad practice to run every program as admin, because it defeats the whole purpose of requiring confirmation for admin rights. While a few older or very badly programmed programs might not behave as intended when you don't, programs can cause serious damage to your system when you do run them as admin all the time. You should only use the "run as admin" feature when you know that this is needed to run the program properly. When a program tries to perform a task which requires admin rights, you get the confirmation popup message from windows. The only programs which need to be "run as admin" are those which can't handle the execution delay caused by you answering this popup.

  • NOT a game master

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

In my experience even newer games run better (or require) admin to run correctly. Some examples of this would be League of Legends, Star Craft II, and PCSX2.
I am unsure of TMW but there is no issue running a program as admin if you fully trust the program as the admin feature is a safety feature.
Its kind of like how i use the noscript add-on for fire fox, but i have well over 50 pages where i always allow script even though more then half the time im on those sites i wont need any script to run, and even if i did its just two clicks to allow script to run.

Its convenience vs. safety, and in the case of programs i trust i will want convenience every time.

But all this is besides the point, my computers safety (and it is very safe) ultimately isnt the issue.
I would like to move on to more important issues, like why my skills all show up as "*Mystery Skill", if they actually work or not (and it seems that some have issues atm like party), and even if they do work i am unable to level them up. Even at the point were i could level them up i still could not level up what i wanted!

I thank you for your response but can we focus on the real issue here?
Being offended by anything I say or do offends me!

I cannot reproduce this with 0.5.2 or manaplus on Windows, or 0.5.0 on Mac. I do see this in mana 0.29.1 on Mac and OpenBSD.

To the best of my understanding, two things are necessary to display skills with name and icon.
First, the client must support this. Mana client 0.5 and newer does, as does manaplus.
Second, the skills must have names and icons in the client data, meaning the data files that the client uses to display the content on the server.

Since you're using a current client, there may be a problem with your client data. I suggest you delete your existing client data directory and let your client re-fetch that the next time you connect to the server. To do this, delete the directory named "updates.themanaworld.org" that contains oddly named zip files within your client config directory. The location of that directory varies by OS.

Hmmm if im correct re-installing would do just that right? So then that must have been the problem i was having?

Either way thanks again! My problem is fixed and that makes me happy.

The problem before was an outdated client version.
What version are you using? If it's not 0.6.0, please update to that.
