marko and their doubts (LocalHost)

Post by Marko Miyamura »

Heya! Well marko returns with their silly questions, I was reading (I do not remember where) you can create a Localhost to play, tested items etc, etc. My question is how I can do that? once completed... I can climb that server to a paid storage service?(So that people can enter and play)

For instructions on setting up your own server: http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/How_to_Develop

There is some historical code regarding paid, time-limited accounts, but we of TMW don't support that, and in fact I might have already removed it.

Thanks for your answer, I think that's what I read  ,About the service, I mean that I pay a service where you can store the necessary files and set up a server as well tmw...That could work?

I don't know a lot about the internet hosting market, but:

Running the server is fairly low in terms of resources (the test server runs on an old laptop) compared to some things, but it *does* require a shell account and a specific public port, which some hosts - especially free (as in beer) hosts - don't provide.

--

But you're better off just contributing to this project ... everybody always seems to idealize starting their own fork but the only one that has any serious effort into it is Evol.

(also, I don't think the word "doubts" means what you think it does - the topic does not make sense to a native English speaker. And it's very odd to use "their" when referring to yourself in the third person)

o11c offers good advice. The most demanding requirement for a small TMW server is reliable Internet connection and a computer you can leave running all the time.

I suggest you set up your TMW server on something small and easy, like an old PC or a virtual machine on your regular computer. I suggest you install some version of Linux if you can, because that's what TMW technical types mostly use, and so you will get the best support here.

It's difficult to attract and hold players to a small server. Don't spend money on this until you push the limits of your beginning setup.

If you have questions or would like advice, you could ask in the forums. You'll get a faster reply if you chat on IRC in the #themanaworld or #tmw-support rooms on irc.themanaworld.org server.

Good luck and have fun!

On the other hand have found some capacitors maintenance and inflated, so you just have to replace them

Your old desktop will easily run a manaworld server. tmwAthena (TMW server source code) should work on Windows, but you'll get more help here if you install Linux.

I wouldn't recommend that you install ubuntu 10.04... get ubuntu 12.04 Server
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server
if you're not familiar with ubuntu at all you should maybe install the nonserver version which you can get
http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/

greets if you need help message me in IRC or in Game

I always get the mini.iso and put it on a USB. That way the download is only 10MB or so.

It shouldn't cause much of a problem to *install* from an old CD, but the first thing you should do is do a dist-upgrade.

10.04.4 will be updated until next April. (2013)
As it's an LTS release, it haves longer time of life compared to other releases.
