Leak with newest SVN - CPU 60-80%
Good Morning,
Since two weeks, I've got the big problem with tmw ( I think it's since my gpu driver update -> fglrx 8.29.6 ), that at starting tmw, it has got a permament cpu usage of 60-80%, with and without opengl.
My system:
Distribution: Debian Sid Kernel: 2.6.18-1-k7 X.Org: 7.1.1 KDE: 3.5.4 Qt: 3.3.6 XChat: 2.6.4 Perl: 5.8.8 VGA: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AP [Radeon 9600] @ 1280x1024/24 bpp/75 Herz
Soundcard: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10) CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) XP (1921.081 MHz) CPU-Cache: 512 KB RAM: 886/1012 MB Networkstats(eth0): Down: 83.9 MiB Up: 17.5 MiB Diskcapacity: 272 GB
I can't enter the game, it would be take years, because it's extreme slowly.

The big CPU usage is due to the fact that the login screens are not fps limited, so I'd say it's normal for everyone to experience it, in game it should be different.
The slow login time was due to the amount of useless accounts registered, we wiped the old ones and the server seems to be faster lately, please try again and tell me if you still experience problems.

No no,
This cpu usage time is since I started it, at the welcome screen overall, I never used the fps limiter, not at the game not at the menu, it worked beautiful.
Now, I can't enter the game or anything else.
And if I activate opengl at the config, sometimes if I type tmw, my whole X server freezes, too.
That's all NOT ingame, because I can't enter the game! that's the big problem.

Any plan on implementing a fps-limited log-in screen? The big CPU usage is due to the fact that the login screens are not fps limited, so I'd say it's normal for everyone to experience it, in game it should be different.
Also, while in that screen, minimizing doesn't slow down the CPU, while it does in game.

apropros drivers
i see you got a 9600.
i would recommend to use the Free Drivers included in xorg instead of the fglrx ones.
i do have the same video card in my notebook and i do get more than 2600 FPS with glxgears and free drivers.
and i use a screen resolution of 1400*1050 with 24bit.
also it is reported the free drivers are more stable than the non free drivers. and they even include some new features the fglrx drivers do not include.

And now say again, that they really suck, they are not free but they are faster and I need the performance.
I NEVER had at any time such a cpu usage at tmw!!!
but it's all the same now, please delete my account at the forum.
Bye.

Note that the 9600 is a RV350, not an R300 (like the page he linked to). As far as I know, while R300 3D is supported by open source drivers (though much slower than fglrx as can be seen from the benchmark), RV350 3D is barely working. Or it works fine for you somehow?maci wrote:i see you got a 9600.

At least I just bought a 9700, since it's R300 and should be supported...
