Casino Graphics
I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, but...
Would it be worth while (for me) to create a set of pixeled playing cards for the casino? If so, I might be able to draw up other things as well, such as a roulette board, craps, slots, etc....

hmm... i guess i just wasnt thinking too close when i said roulette. i'm thinking more on a scale of something that would be more animated than what we currently are using. instead of the roulette dealer saying where the ball landed, we could draw up a ball in the spot that has been picked by the server. as for playing cards, i was thinking a similar thing. when a player sits down at the blackjack table, a new window will pop up (a zoomed in window) and show the back of the dealers cards, and show the player the face of his cards.

Aaaahh, if that's what you mean I think it's a good idea. I think I wrote something about it on the wiki. It was about PvP mini-games. Let me see...
Yea, I also had the idea players walking by could zoom into the playing field.
I agree eventually we should have this. But it's very low priority at the moment, so don't expect this any time soon.

As I am not a lead developer by any means, and my contribution has been more of a moral support to this point, I think that I might start on a playing card deck that might be used in the future. While it is a small task, it is something that I can do to contribute. It will give me something to do, and at the very least, we can decide whether to impliment it on the new server, or just throw it out.
you know.... that reminds me....
while we already decided mini games will be on the backburner until the new server, maybe we could have our own card game through out TMW. card games like black jack, and texas hold'em will be only playable in the casino, but if we create a new card game, it could be played anywhere there is an opponent. i'm thinking of something similar to the card game in Final Fantasy VIII (the only one i have played), and have rare cards that are of more use than the average card. anyways, just an idea. I will get started on making a basic deck.

If you were to design a card game... please, I beg thee, for the love of the gods... don't start with drawing them. First design the gameplay, put it to paper. Then think about what information there should be on each card.http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/PvP_Games#Cardgames wrote:Players that have a pack of the same sort of cards can challenge one another to play a game of cards. We could use a standard pack of cards and implement existing games.
We could also (maybe aside from the normal pack) have a pack of cards we designed ourselves. Maybe a bit like Magic the Gathering?
And PLEASE do not create a card game with a card for each monster in the game. That's a) rediculous b) cliche. Preferably something with colours, symbols, shapes and/or numbers.

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.
You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
We're getting offtopic, but:
A simple card game with a simple deck which would be non-collectible. I don't like the idea that only high level / dirty rich players would have a definite advantage. It should be about tactical skill to gain popularity: easy to learn, hard to master. Something that could even gain popularity outside the game. Something with which it could become popular to do trades (the winner takes both items, in the case of a draw they only switch owners), so perhaps a possibility of a draw would be nice too.

Let's let's split the topic from the 6th of November 1 pm on.Rotonen wrote:We're getting offtopic...
We could have multiple card games ofcourse. But yea, they should not be copies of stuff. Stuff being exsisting card games.
I agree with Rotonen, the cards should be rather simple and non-collectible. The game should have a pack of cards to which you can't add any cards. The cars should be simple in that they have no more then say three variables. Numbers, symbols/shape and colours, for instance. We could do something with the elements maybe?
Pitty I don't have time to write or think about this at the moment.

No time to think, little time to draw. I know this is straight against what I said earlier, but I did it anyway.
No rules, just a graphical idea. Quite pointless actually... who knows, maybe it's inspiring.
