Getting Started Guide. (Copied from Wiki)

Post by Amethyst »

So, you've just started playing The Mana World, but can't find your way around? Worry not, we're here to help!

When you first enter The Mana World on the default server (currently server.themanaworld.org), you'll notice the relatively clean interface sports a few buttons. Most are self explanatory, although note that not all windows have a close button - you'll have to click on the button for them to close them (supposing you opened them), and there's a shortcut key to close the map in the readme. If in doubt, hit F1.

You'll want to start by going over your inventory and the usual things, but don't waste too much time - just get started by killing maggots, the little white things that run around in numbers. If your health bar goes red, never fear - there's a lady by the gate (south of where you start) who'll heal you for free. But note that she won't be able to heal you forever. It's a routing process you'll get used to - kill maggots, heal, keep killing maggots. Every level you grow, however (you'll notice at the 'Status' page), you'll receive points you can put towards various stats.

* Strength: Makes you hit harder with melee weapons.
* Agility: Makes your enemies hit you less often and increases your attack speed
* Vitality: Increases your maximum HP and your HP recovery rate. Decreases the amount of damage you receive from hits.
* Intelligence: Increases your maximum MP and your MP recovery rate. this stat isn't that important yet because there isn't a way to spend your MP yet.
* Dexterity: Makes you hit harder with bows. Makes you miss your enemies less often with both melee and bow weapons.
* Luck: Makes you do critical hits from time to time.

Aside from the desert land you start off with, there are quite a few different areas in The Mana World, which you'll have to find for yourself. There are also many different weapons you can use besides what you start off with, so keep your eyes peeled at any shops you come across (maggots also drop something useful - a dagger, which hits considerably more than your run-off-the-mill knife. See the item reference for details).

One thing you'll notice if you invest hours every day into the game, is that you'll eventually run out of things to do. While we're constantly adding to the game with maps, quests, NPCs etc. we really can't keep up with demand. If you'd like to help this though, just join the project! It's as simple as that, and you play the games, not us, so we don't know what you'd like to see and your opinion matters to us. See Joining the project for details.

How to go to places.

Forest:

To go to the forest get out of the city and go southwest until you reach a passage. Avoid the monsters and go northwest until you get to a gate. (Go west of the lake.

Bat Cave:

Go to the cave in the middle of the 2nd part of the woodland. The cave entrance looks like a crack.

Ice Village:

Go north of the bat cave till you reach a girl. Help her find santa then go north. Voila your in the ice village.

What is the purpose of this forum post? Why not just link to the wiki page instead of copying it here?

Mainly for the purpose that most new users don't know what a wiki is, and usually come straight to the forums for help.
