A "wiki" MMORPG?

Talk about anything, including games and servers not affiliated with The Mana World.

A "wiki" MMORPG?

Post by Blash »

Wouldn't it be sweet if TMW itself was a wiki! Every joe who had an idea to add could do-it-themself.

User accounts with access restrictions, and version rollback would keep problems from happening if someone did something nasty.

Every proposal could have its own source code file, and TMW and TMWServer could initialize its engine to load the default, standard proposal.

Any joe artist could add his item, and the item would be ready to use in-game, once the item was enabled in the item config file upon approval (by the priviledged access user).

It sounds like control versioning to me, like VisualSourceSafe or CVS

It definitely would be like that, but of course, as a "wiki", it would have a web-based interface front end to make it easy to work on wherever you are. Of course, the web would have to become your IDE, and the compilation would have to be automatic on the server end, or something like that.

Perhaps a Java applet that serves as a front-end to the server. That would be cool!

There have been some visions about dynamical user content manipulation in the past. No permanent decisions on the matter have been reached yet.
