Buildings and walls in desert map

Post by Othello »

Hey everyone,

Would it be alright if would 'remaster' the resized building and rock-wall graphics in the desert? Or is someone else already working on that (or are they to be replaced anyway?).

Thanks,
Vincent

AFAIK it's more than ok for you to start the process.

It's about time already.

Actually Modanung already started a revamp of Tulimshar, you can see his progress here:

He also promised to complete the walls sometime soon.

So, I guess the priority would be starting to work on cliff tiles, but I think Modanung wouldn't mind if you want to attempt some work on the walls.

The remastering I mean is just an update of the exisiting tileset, it'll just be the hi-res version of the current tiles, adding some sharpness and dither, maybe a few details.

Is mundang creaing a completly new tileset? I wouldn't want to find out that if I do spend the time on this that it will be replaced soon. :) If mundang is only doing the buildings, I could do the cliffs, but as said before, they will just be an update of the current tiles.

by the way: does the client support PNG transparency levels or is it on/off? Is there a convention about this?

Yes, the client supports alpha transparency. Please use 8bit alpha channel in all of your images.

Well, I started work on the desert cliffs, they now look like this. Still needs more work though...

I'm still not sure if I need to modify the building, or wait for Modanung.

I'd prefer you to complete your work on the cliffs.

I would like another opinion on this, but to me, the color of the cliff's edge seems to be off.

Also, I'm guessing you've probably already noticed and fixed this.. but please fix this apparently stray pixel.

Something else for the appearance of desert cliffs, would be to alter the amount of sand that covers their plateaus. I would expect the top to be completely covered, only if it were a straight-up dune, but this looks as though it needs a rockier surface, on top. (not a complete lack of sand, but less sand)

For that to cover the whole top, we'd need to add many new tiles. If the change from rock to sand could be made more gradually on the cliff tiles themselves, we could avoid a lot of extra mapping.

Here is the latest version. What do you think? I think more tiles are needed for more varation, but for now I think this is already a good improvement :)

So, how do I get it into the game?

It looks too repetive, in my opinion. You can exactly count the tiles.

Yes, you are right. There are a few small things I wish to fix, and add some more alternatives. For now I think the tileset lacks alternative tiles, though I saw some in the tileset which don't seem to be used in the map. I'll create some alternatives, then someone needs to edit the map to use these new tiles.

I fixed the repeatative, all distinctive features are now in a separate group of tiles. So, how do I get them into the game?
