New skill icons

Post by Othello »

Hey everyone,

I've started creating new skill icons. Here are the first two, sword (already seen in other post) and knife. Both images are pure SVGs (rendered to PNG). They are now optimized for 32x32 because that is probably the size in the game.

What do you think?

Keep it up, they look great. They'll fit very nicely into the skill dialog. Its late here and I can't really think of any critique at the moment. I'll post any if they come to me later.

How should the following skills look?

STAFF - like a magic staff, or a basic staff? Basic staff is basicly a stick...
UNARMED - maybe a fist or two arms?
SHOOTING - no idea how to represent this?
THROWN - hmm...

Dart.

What exactly will use the shooting skill?

Hi again Othello,

For the staff, I'd go with a magic staff design. For unarmed, ya a fist or at least a hand in some gesture would do. Throwing should be like, a dart or a star or something like that.
As for shotting, ya its weird. I'd think this would be referring to arrows, though i don't know how it'd be separated from bows. So ya, go with an arrow for now I guess, unless whoever came up with the current skill categories has something to say about it (Crush?).

Judging from the current development builds, I'd say it's a safe bet that Bows/Crossbows will be the only 'projectile' weapons alongside thrown weapons.

Thanks for your input! Its very helpful!

Rodge: Isn't a magic staff confusing? I mean they might think it has something to do with magic

Shooting refers to crossbows.

Orthello, I get what you mean, so maybe something not so ornate, but still a little textured (like Gandalf's first staff from the lord of the rings movie XD)?

We are talking about skill icons here. They should be "iconic" in my opinion. This means as little distinctive details as possible.

Because there doesn't seem to be much happening here I decided to pixel some provisorical skill icons myself which can be used until someone comes up with a better alternative:

Perhaps adding some texture to it could improve it

Well, I wouldn't say nothing much is happening here, just because he isn't posting what he has so far..
Thanks for these though, I'll work with them until Othello is done.

When someone feels like improving my skill icons - feel free to do so. I don't intend to keep working on them.

Hey, I'm still working on the skill icons. Its rather stange to say 'not much is happening' since I replied two days before that... anyway, I'll delivery the icon set sometime next week, so stay put.
