This forum houses many years of development, tracing back to some of the earliest posts that exist on the board. Its current use is for the continued development of the server and game it has always served: The Mana World.
You can find some tutorials at the end of the article http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/Guidelines on the wiki. But note that you will have to practice a lot before you can do useable map tiles. Especially considering that Len and Saphy set the standard a lot higher with their latest contributions.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
Regardless of the system I can suggest you GIMP as a general purpose graphic manipulation program. Although it is not easy to learn for a beginner.

Um, I have GIMP, but I want to use something a bit simple.
I would have tried Tile Studio, but I don't have Windows.
So, if you know any pixal art program then please post.

It depends, sometimes I draw concept arts in bus, train or in work when I'm bored.
But usually I pixel without it - especially small pieces like icons. In more complicated cases I also use Inkscape (As you saw in well tutorial). But remember - Every artist have to find his own path to most effective work and the best results. And you will reach all this by practice.
I guess this is the best thread to post this... I just started recently too, and I'm unsure how to do the shading and basic style. I've been working in paint and looking at others' art as references. I would like it if anyone can tell me how to improve.
I started with Bmp and had to save to Jpg to attatch it, which resulted in a loss of color. Could someone please tell me the best file extension to use?
