Interest in forking TMW project?

Post by salmondine »

If anyone has any Interest in a fork of The Mana World.
I would like to form group and start high speed server.
Primary to project is killing old code money bug and Keeping speed attack as a feature.
Keeping a high energy feeling in game play :D
Then staying current with and adding to available content for slow and fast forks.

I like the idea of a choice.. I don't need the money bugs but like the fast attack ability. I think that would be a great comprimise letting the purists have their "fairness" and letting the have funners that don't want to play quake or some 1st person shooter to have fun play on the fast attack side and maybe kinda have chars in both so can play a little in both places. I love TMW and would hate to loose all that I worked on, but having a fun part would rock. I know that there are a lot of players that do like the fast attack maybe just as many if not more than those who don't. Again, money and things really don't drive me but fun and fast paced play does. Snake caves rock even with fast attack when you get a few players there too. I do think that if you are going to play with normal speed with snake cave even with 20 people you die quick and it sux respawning all the way back to the village. Why not spawn near the battle so not as long of a journey to get back. just a thought.

Cheers,

Dan

With all respect, do you know meaning of word "FORK"?
New server isn't a project fork.

Right, but the word fork (as in "fork in the road") refers to a split where the two servers could be used as options when sign on occurs. Yes, I realize that this is not the intention of the two servers thing, but this is an Idea to be brought before the powers that be... I would donate my comp to host this server but I don't think my wife will agree to this. Maybe someone with appropriate bandwidth and who wouldn't mind could make such an offer?? (hint hint, nudge nudge) this way no problems should occur betwixt the two servers / hosts.

My 2 cents

Fork is an alternate project, in programming, scripting and developing. New servers are welcome, but I wouldn't call it a 'fork' :)

New server isn't a project fork.
It would in fact take a new development path, with adaptation for fast attack.
game balance etc, even maps and monsters geared for faster play.
It would keep eathena also, making it a true fork from current development plans.

So a Fast and a Slow fork.

Don't get me wrong, the slow version is much needed, it has many fine qualities and will
be well recieved among people seeking a relaxed gaming environment or just a nifty chat program.
Currently, there is little available for children, the mentally challenged, and elderly gamers.
I applaude your efforts at targeting these,(Special Needs), user groups. 8)
