Slime repairs

Post by kr0n05931 »

I fixed the light source issues on the slime and did a slight transparent modification.

NOTE: The slimes look different here than in-game due to the background of the forums. You'll have to test it in game. For this, I have provided a .zip.

Other Things that should be changed to IMO:
  • The attack direction of the north / south sprites should be fixed.
  • A animation when he is doing nothing
  • A animation when he dies

I've looked at it ingame and it seems like you just made the whole graphic transparent in the same way (you forgot the standing phase, by the way). This is not really how a transparent ooze looks in real life. When you do it that way the monster does not really look transparent. It more looks like its color adapts to the background.

The transparence should depend on the thickness of the ooze, while the outer "hull" and the parts which touch the ground under the ooze should be least transparent,

Here as an example a similar monster from Ragnarok Online:

How's this?

Btw, these slimes make a big difference in game. They look much better transparent than opaque.

NOTE: Transparency is done color-wise, since the colors are thickness related. Lighter = More Transparent, Darker = More Opaque.

Sorry, but I tried the graphics out ingame and they did not really appeared very transparent to me unless when they moved over high-contrast borders.

I already did. The effect is even less visible than in the desert except for when they pass over the edge of a carpet in level 2.

I think I've fixed it with this one. I edited the transparencies of the colors and made bigger/lower contrasts.

I tested it ingame. I like the idea, but the problem is you only recognize the transparency in the desert, in the mines you hardly realize it. The other problem I think is that the colours are too bleached. I dont know much about transparencies, maybe theres a way to make the colours look more intensive.

EDIT:

Ahrg, I accidentally deleted my backup of the original slime .png and .xml files. It would be nice if someone could load it up for me or send me a link or anything.

There is no need to make colours look more intensive. Creature made mostly from water should be transparent. In fact water is colour less.

You can get a backup of every other data file (including past versions) from the web interface of our subversion repository:

You can use the web interface to the svn repository:
http://themanaworld.svn.sourceforge.net ... iew=markup
http://themanaworld.svn.sourceforge.net ... iew=markup

EDIT:
 Crush, got to it before me. Anyway, Crush’s links get you the files directly (just to save directly) while mine includes the “interface” to the svn repository in case you wish to browse around in there...
