Improved female underwear

Post by Vink »

Hello!

Many of you have probably seen me (and others) complain about the tiny female underwear. These women are warriors, after all, so something more sporty would make a lot more sense.

Fate has been kind enough to try to fix this. :) I therefore suggest supplanting the current spritesheet with this one, if/when it's good enough.

I like the female spritesheet we have now. With the spritesheet we have now you see it immediately it is a female body. With this spritesheet you have to look if (s)he is wearing a bra or not.

Something that we might also want to do is make the bra strapless, so it doesn't show with shoulder-less clothing.

Do you seriously mean to say that you see it's a female body because of the thong? Males also wear thongs sometimes...

I'd rather see less than more underwear on all spritesheets because it increases the possibilities of what we can do with cloth sprites.

My personal stand on this:

Some people seem to have issues with the fact of reality that we are all naked under our clothes.

My professional stand on this:

We should offer a non-offensive solution which does not impair equipment development.

These two viewpoints should combine into some sort of a reasonable compromise.

Well in RL I can see the difference between a female and a male body fine. But because the ingame sprites are small it helps if the difference between male and female is a bit bigger than in RL.

Why not remove the underwear completly, and only draw it when the player isnt wearing any shirt / trousers?

That's a fair point in my opinion.

But it's still a big difference. The male underwear has a little bit of legs, while the female one does not. There's also the bra on the females, and since the sprites are small as you mentioned, it's not like you need to turn your head to see it. ;)

I agree, it gives us much more freedom when making clothing. Also, the same should be done with hairstyles while we're at it.

Hair is more complicated than that. Imagine if head bands removed hair.

What if a bra was an upper piece (shirt class) of armor and the panties were a bottom piece (pants class). I know right now the server only supports certain (I think it's 3 total) pieces of armor, but I thought I read that's being resolved on the new server. Separating the 2 items into separate pieces of armor may allow us to play around with the idea of different colors/shapes of underwear, like guys running around with boxers w/ hearts on them, etc. Also I like the idea if you put something overtop of the underwear, the underwear disappears, but what if underwear was a special dual class of armor where when worn by itself has one set of properties but when worn in conjunction with something else it adds to the overgarment, like a pair of Lucky Boxers adds something to the pants being worn overtop.

I don't understand why the underwear have to be removable. If you don't want the bra strap to show on a strapless off the shoulder shirt then you pixel that area with a flesh tone on the armor to "cover up/remove" the offending piece of underwear.

And when we implement other races?

It shouldn't be very hard to alter eAthena to send a specific view id when nothing is equipped.
