Suggested Item - Shield
I would like to see several shields introduced into TMW
My starting suggestions are:
1. Leather Shield= Defense 20, would require strength above 40 to carry, made from Leather Shirts, and treated with Iron Potions, then colored by Herbs
2. Wood Shield = Defense 50, would require strength above 50 to carry, lashed together by Leather from Leather Shields, and predominately Wooden Logs, treated with Iron Potions, and Hard Spikes, and colored by herbs.
3. Iron Shield = Defense 100, would require strength above 60 to carry, made from Iron Ore, cured over buring wooden shields, with Iron Potions, Colored Herbs and Hard Spikes
These shields would be 1 handed and would "not work" with Bows and Arrows (Archer).
Color of shields may be used to identify Clan (Affinity to other players within the TMW game)

Leave the stats up to the devs. By the way, I think defence is calculated in per-cents, so 100 defence means you're invincible.

No, defence is a number, it's based on "vitality + bonus from items. I'm currently at def 129 when wearing full equipment.
BTW, there are already some shields, the problem with equipable items is that eathena only allows 3 items to be displayed (currently set to pants, shirts, and hats).
Also, the animations should be drawn for attack/defence/walking etc.
The best way to get somethig in teh game that you want to see, is to make it yourself ^_^

According to RO DataZone, linked from the wiki page on Stats:
So let’s say you have armour with a total defence value of 25, and your vitality stat is 30. Suppose someone attacks you with 100 damage. First the armour protects you with a percentage (25% of 100 = 25), then your vitality protects you with an absolute but random number between 24 (30 Ã 0.5 + 30 Ã 0.3) and 24 (30 Ã 0.5 + maximum_of(30 Ã 0.3; 30² / 150 - 1). So the total damage recieved will be 100 - 25 - 24 = 51.
You shouldn’t take the number you see displayed in the client too literary since it is an addition of a percentage and an absolute number, total bugus.
This to my understanding, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Vitality level → Added absolute defence
1 → 0
10 → 8
20 → 16
30 → 24
40 → 32
50 → 40–40
60 → 48–53
70 → 56–66
80 → 64–81
90 → 72–98
99 → 78–113
So unless the eAthena server we use is different or the devs has changed anything, the defence from armour is a percentage and the defence from vitality is an absolute number.Def:
- Def means Defence and refers to your ability to reduce damage inflicted on you.
- The left-hand part of Def is derived from items of Armor (including any pluses on them) and reduces damage by a percentage. The true value of Armor DEF is BasicArmor + Refinements*2/3. That is, you take the full amount of whatever it says in your armors descriptions and any armor adding cards, but only two-thirds of the pluses on your armor. eg. +6 Plate is actually worth 10 + 6*2/3 = 14 DEF. Use this "true value"
- The right-hand part of Def is derived from your VIT and reduces damage by that number of points after the left-hand part is applied.
- VIT Defense for Players is calculated as [VIT*0.5] + rnd([VIT*0.3], max([VIT*0.3],[VIT^2/150]-1)) where [] indicates you round the value inside down before continuing and rnd(x,y) indicates that you use a random number between the values of x and y. If y is less than x, then it becomes equal to x. max(x,y) indicates you should take the greater of x and y.
- VIT Defense for Monsters is VIT + rnd(0,[VIT/20]^2-1) where [] indicates you round the value inside down before continuing and rnd(x,y) indicates that you use a random number between the values of x and y. In other words, a random number between 0 and your vit divided by 20 and rounded down, then squared minus 1. As an example, 63 vit would mean each hit does 0-8 less damage (determined randomly on each hit).
- Def can never reduce damage inflicted below 1 point.

We have been changing it, but that still holds. Even an armor with def 100 still lets some attacks get through.Ces wrote:snip

I was thinking the same, it would make the warriors stronger so maybe more people choose to be a warrior and not an archer.
Also in the movies a shield is often used as a weapon to, so maybe it can have (a litle) damage too?
I really like the idea of a shield, becouse i chose to be a warrior and i'm level 60 now, but i can still hardly kill snakes.

With the far away attack bug, you can get much more than 1 dmg.
