[WIP] Snow tiles
[WIP] Snow tiles
I am attempting to improve the snow tileset.
First I tried to make ice tile. Do you want different ice tiles to remove the grid effect? That would be reasonable job to do.

Re: [WIP] Snow tiles
we have played with the snow area before but it seems we lost interest in it

and yes variation tiles would be appreciated if at all possible and there are various ways of going about it you could have a repeatable pattern that spans more than one tile. you could use a bunch of different tiles and have no pattern at all. or you could have one tile and just use objects such a snow drifts to fill it up.
or a combination of all
example:
I really need to finish that...LOL
Tiles are actually flexible despite their reputation

Ooh, definite progress. Good job on how the general apparel of the ice hole turned out. (I am on a not-so-good monitor, I could very well be wrong too.)

Re: [WIP] Snow tiles
I tried to improve the current snow tile first.
Would this work? (It has currently 3 different tiles)

Not bad, I like the fact that it is not in a straight lineHaay wrote:Transitions tiles:

I do however find the texture a little annoying, we need someway to make the grid less noticeable
I'm playing around with various ideas Don't forget that nothing is stopping us from making dirt and grass layers
also have you given any thought to what need to be modified and reworked in the old tileset?

Ok, here is my current tileset. Some unfinished works are also here if someone wants to work on them
Nice work on the dunes and tree, btw.
Yes, it is quite annoying but I am going to make different died plants sticking out of the snow and ice (reef).I do however find the texture a little annoying, we need someway to make the grid less noticeable

Re: [WIP] Snow tiles
When you want to go for maximum realism: Frozen water surfaces appear black in reality, not blue. But making them blue is acceptable too because it will be really hard to make black ice surfaces which look like ice and not like oil. A cold shade of cyan already transports the message "it's really cold here so this has to be ice".

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
Re: [WIP] Snow tiles
Ice is also reflective and transmissive, so blue is acceptable (blue sky and water below).Crush wrote:When you want to go for maximum realism: Frozen water surfaces appear black in reality, not blue. just as long as its recognizable as ice and looks good, I have no problem with it
I'm much more concerned about making the world believable (not necessarily realistic)

Yeah, suspension of disbelief is what we're after. Even if you make a movie, you cannot convince every single nitpicker out there.
I agree on the cold being relayed by the palette choice.
