Clan's bot (specifications and agreement)

Post by imax »

Hello all,
I'm posting here after a discussion during the HMC meeting, and talking about it with Jaxad and Platyna. Jaxad said me to ask to Platyna about bot request, and Platyna said me she leaved the project. Platyna said that she was against bots which are getting xp/items and money.

They are a lot of tasks that a clan leader encounter which can be automatized. The bot will save every clan leader time, so they could do more useful things which can't be automatized, like enjoying the game, help other players, and participate to events.

The idea of this post is to define functionalities of clan's bot which are acceptable for all the tmw community. I tried, with Jarvellis, to define some basic specifications. Feel free to add comments, restrictions or other features.

We are conscious that we need to prevent some server (and bot) attacks like flood. We keep it in mind in every moment. Feel free to add more security things we need to keep in mind (not sure that thetre's a lot more than flood though).

HMC Clan's Bot:
-subscription confirmation
it's useful to prevent persons to register char which belong to someone else
-donations and bank bots management
the bot will accept donations from members, and put them on a second kind of bot dedicated to keep items. We could define clan quotas of items. But actually there's no problem.
-bot help command
something like "/whisper mybot help bot", will give the internal help of the bot.
-memoserv
a member could register a message for an other member. This second member will receive the message next time he talk to the bot.
-jobs,ranks and rares management
the idea here is to give the possibility to the member to subscribe to a list for each particular things: a job, a rank or to get a rare. The bot will keep an ordered list. The bot will wait for a validation from a bot admin
-clan help
like the npc who can give help for the game, we can give help about clan rules like "/whisper mybot help PP"
-administration interface
locally we will be able to manage the bot with greater access, to setup special clan rules. The idea is to have a generic clan bot, and every clan customize it to feet their needs.

As long as the bot does only do automatized management tasks and does not gain items or exp on its own (like attacking or picking up) and doesn't do any unwanted interaction with players (public talking, unrequested whispering etc.) and the GMs are informed about it I see nothing wrong with it.

Using automatized bots programmed by players to enrich the game world could help players to make the mana world much more interesting. But we should make clear rules what bots may do and what they don't and any bot should be authorized by the GMs and the sourcecode should be disclosed to the developers so that they can verify that it does exactly what the owner says.

But I am not the one who decides this.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Indeed, such bot would be acceptable. However it should sit in one defined spot known to GMs and shouldn't move, also it should have "bot" in his name so it would be clear what it is.

I never heard we can develop a program without releasing the source code oO. Is it an alternative economic model ? Well, the idea behind the HMC Clan Bot, is to have a generic bot for every clans. So it's sure we will release the source.

About name and fixed location , sure. Members of the clan need to find it easely too ^^.

Thank you to you both

Permission given. ;)
I personally don't have any objections to that bot which surely is a good thing and an enrichment for the game.

If you will let us know when the bot is going to be online, what it's name definite name is and where it's going to stand I will have no problem with it.

Huhu. I wonder since when GMs decide what software can be connected to the official server (no, I didn't meant to be mean here).

I think she was saying that they have her permission. GMs need to be involved in this since they enforce the rules.
