[GIT] Preview of an Animated NPC

Post by valus »

I'm working on animating the Sex Change guy. I'll show you what I've got so far.

I'm planning to add more movement to his coat and head. And maybe have his left arm do a little something (e.g. show off his tools).

Thoughts?

Nice work, only thing I don't like is how his hand falls back into starting position after he closes his coat (its a little too abrupt)

It's going to be boring and silly if he's going to repeat that until infinity.

Can we do an array of animations per NPC and trigger them at random?

Not yet. We can make a large animation loop (like a few minutes worth).

Like after opening his jacket he could take out some scizors with his other hand hold them up and snap them in the air quickly for demonstrative purposes?

The holidays are over and I'm continuing work on the NPC. Here is an update of what I've been doing.

The NPC is showing off his scissors. I need to refine the movements, improve the the look of the scissors, and perform sundry tweaks, but here you go.

Thoughts?

I love how cold and determined he happens to look like while he's demonstrating the scissors.

Keep on going.

The scissor is hard to make out. It quite melts with the background. Possible solutions: a) hold it over the shoulder, b) change the color to be more different from the background. Maybe more rusty?

I made a longer loop of three motions strung together.

I've changed the look of the scissors slightly in an effort to improve visibility. They look like scissors to me, but I'm understandably biased :)

Can you guys tell those are scissors?

Also, does the right hand look weird when it's falling to his side after releasing his coat?

I added an eye blink. Bueno or no?

What does this need?

Perhaps a different kind of scissors could be better. The type used now, with the tick round blades reminds me of arts and craft in kindergarten.
Some alternative models you could consider that are more recognisable and give a different level of "creepyness"

Oh another suggestion, before he opens his jacket and takes out the scizzors, a quick paranoid look left and right to check if nobody's watching.

Good call on the paranoid looks.

I didn't think about using pruning shears-like scissors.

The scissors are perfect for the purpose, especially the quick snip gets to you. It relays the thought remarkably well. Our community is capable of infinite nitpicking, but this time I'm going to blow the whistle here and call the angry mob off your back.

I think we have animation talent at our hands here. I love how you do the movement hinting with the cloth behaviour.

If you want to add to this, slightly crouching over and suspiciously looking around would fit the character. The head turning is probably going to be a pain to do.

Also, would you like to be our savior and finish the playerset?
