That would be because of the particular frames I wound up using...the points of motion the character's legs are in between frames 3 and 4 (or 6 and 1) aren't conducive to more transitory shading. I was originally going to use slightly different poses, but these wound up being my best bet in terms of the movement not looking choppy, which would be significantly more of a problem. Hopefully the animation will look a bit more natural to you when he's actually moving around, instead of just "walking in place" like he is as you see it here.

WAAA, GET RID OF THE NOSE!

Apart from that, really great sprites! :D
The sit-and-look-down sprite could use some improvement on the legs though.

I think the sprite would look good with or without the nose.

I think this looks better. Apart from reducing the size of the nose, the jaw and his forehead I raised his eye and ear 1 pixel. I also edited the eye so it looks less evil.
Apart from that I made the border less jaggy, which I think looks better.

Just showing my view.

No offense Modanung but I think Talaroc's looks better.

Now that I examined Talaroc's more closely I see that the nose is fine. Once you add hair you will see the difference... or so I think.
I love you too. :)

My thoughts exactly.

Will we see these sprites in the next release. If so, when will that be?

That was precisely the intent - the nose looked too short in the previous version, but only when the hair was applied. With the hair off, it looks ok, leaning in the direction of being too big - this is a simplified facial form designed to accomodate the low resolution. Moreover, this allows more space to put the hair, which of course is so important in an anim?-styled game like this. X)

Another notable change in the last release was that we have moved the foot further from the camera upwards to account for perspective. Perspective in this game is a 45? isometric projection, and the foot being directly behind the other one didn't work right.

-----

On a side note - damn. Nice work, mon ami - I was secretly expecting I would have to finish this up. Mayhaps I can work on that female permutation?

I think front and rear sprites are ok , but side walk could be improved a little, I think the pose is not perfectly balanced.
And the sitting sprites could use a better leg position, maybe less symmetric or with legs a bit higher from the terrain

I modified the original sprite set to use this sprites,
as you can imagine the hair doesn't fit really anymore.

As you can see the guy is a bit to thin when he is ingame:

If he is streched a bit he looks better ingame:

http://www.inside-php.de/tmw/tmw4.png

You should also keep in mind that you have only 4 pics for each direction and movement and not 6

The sprite file with the streched chars:

For those who want to try it :)

Now we need some daring soul to start clothing this poor fellow..

And he is a bit scrawny when sitting down..

Someone might want to de-blur that sprite, It's good for both filesize and for making it easier for people to edit it for clothes etcetera.
