Which linux distribution are you using?

Post by Terwarf »

As i'm working on an install script for multiple tmw versions and distributions, i want to know what are the most common used distribs to support them.

If you can't find your distribution in the list, please post its name below ;)
It would be also very kind if you would write down also the version of your distribution, and if you are able to use the command "lsb_release -d" also it's output (Please also note if the command doesn't work for you).

lsb_release is limited to Linuxes which support the LSB (!) I don't have lsb_release on my system.

I'm running Arch Linux, 64-bit.

Code: Select all

$ uname -a
Linux epilopter 2.6.29-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed May 20 06:42:43 UTC 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.20GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.29-ARCH (root@T-POWA-LX) (gcc version 4.4.0 (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed May 20 06:42:43 UTC 2009
is that any good to you?

I installed tmw from pacman, the Arch Linux package manager, just fine. Also installed tmw from source just fine. Does the existing tmw installation package/script not work? Be careful, please, of creating a solution where there isn't a problem (ie, if it ain't broke, don't fix it).

For Arch Linux, new releases are in the repositories quickly, and if you want the current git, you can use the package build from http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=21707 with makepkg.

Note that clients older than 0.0.25 will be troublesome to deal with, as they need a different version of guichan.

I know some dristribs lacking support for lsb_release, thats why i wrote this question above. Maybe i'll also look @ /proc/version some day to identify these distribs, but for the moment i'll keep up with lsb_release.
My script won't change anything to the client, so no panic.
All i'm doing is writing a script that installs git client, 0.0.28.1 or 0.0.29 and helps installing all needed packets if the distrib is known to the script. Also it helps you to update the git client with one click from desktop...

Thanks for your votes & answers so far - keep on :wink:

Ubuntu GNU/Linux 9.04.

Don't expect to get zillions of results. The forums aren't frequented by a large percentage of players.
