A solution to the low level mage problem

Post by kr0n05931 »

At the moment, many players are forced into dumping stat points into melee in order to gain magic components. Even worse, low level players themselves are trapped with #lum as the only spell with components that can be easily gathered, making them never able to advance a level in magic. So for this, I propose a solution.

Gamboge herbs are yellow, and sulfur is yellow, so why don't we make it to where casting a catalytic burning spell, that requires nothing but MP, on a gamboge herb produces a sulfur powder?

Not only would this raise the street value of gamboge herbs, but it would also allow low level mages to have a spell to fallback on, #flar, and alternate with #lum, so that they can get xp and raise their magic levels.

We can easily explain this phenomena by saying that, the way in which gamboge herbs grow, causes them to store massive amounts of sulfur from the soil in their tissues, in turn forcing them to become a yellow color.

I know, I know! Yesterday I came up with a solution to the same problem. And they have it already figured out. Mage stages are just a working progress now. When higher magic levels will be ready, you won't need sulphur or other catalysts for lower lvl spells like flar.

And I think that it's good for a new mage to keep making parums after Auldsbel accepts his figurine. It's a great spell for learning purposes and even if it doesn't produce anything useful it gets you prepared for more difficult transmutations. I keep hearing that transmuting iron powder or sulphur backfires. Well, it never did on me and I think it has a lot to do with the 200+ parums I made after I got transmutation magic lvl 2. Add summoning maggots in the mix and with 3 spells to practice a new mage can advance pretty fast.

Try killing a log head with a dagger, 5 str, and 5 dex.

What the heck are you talking about? Were we talking about a lvl 1 mage? Is anybody keeping you from equipping a scythe, short sword or better? Did this post have any purpose at all?

You always have to keep the newbies in mind who would like to start their career as a mage.
  • former Manasource Programmer
  • former TMW Pixel artist
  • NOT a game master

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

He works his way to a reasonable level. There are quests for new players too. In this game it actually takes a while before you can buy all the weapons and armor available in Tulimshar. And by that time do that you might actually be strong enough to stand a chance in the scythe quest. If a high level helper assists, a 30 level can get the short sword. You can get to lvl 30 in a couple of days if you try... You do all the things at the right time.

I think that's the point he's trying to make? No matter what you'll have to start off as a warrior/archer to get to atleast lvl 30.

As a matter of fact, you can only be a warrior, as you can never afford a bow and arrows at lvl 1. I see nothing wrong with that. You begin naked and weak, just like in real world. You kill some maggots with a stick for a while just to understand fighting. Then you get the hang of it and are ready for more difficult tasks.

Magic is supposed to be studied (all wizards in books and movies seem to have a wise-geeky look). And it's better like that in the game too. Can you imagine being a n00b and having to write down lots of spells in the first day of TMW? Most new people would get scared away by this. Learning it later is way better, especially when you start to get bored of killing the same monsters over and over again. Not only your character, but you as a player need to literally learn magic. It's excellent like this.
