[WIP] Mage Shirt

Post by Goku »

Currently tackling another project, but when an idea pops into my head I can't hold back. I also like variety so I can switch between projects.

So I tried a mage shirt. Maybe it could add stats to a mage like the assasin armor does for archers. Right now all they have are robes, which are neutral?

And of course this is only the inventory icon.

Here's a test for a male version front view.

Comments and suggestions please before I move forward.

I tried adding a blueish jewel type thing on it but it just didn't fit in. I'll try to see what I can do.

Btw I wasn't going for a high tech professional mage look like "hey i'm harry potter look at my expensive cloak thingy" lol. More like a dirty old rag an evil mage would put on to look well.. evil. Picture it with the Evil Eye Sprites Wombat made! What could be scarier?

I was told while making my assassin armor I should add some pixel variation to the chest so its does not look so static since it is a cloth shirt. I took this as to mean that the light will play on the shoulders and chest a little different in each step of the arm swings. And changing up some of the positions of lighter and darker pixels on the torso can give the illusion on the cloth rippling and moving.

Congratulations for your progress, nice work :) .
Maybe the golden ring over the neck can be layered over a normal shirt to make it easier to draw.
On storyline metal pieces reduce magic attack, but maybe we could do an exception with minerals as gold on magic clothes and armors. If gold pieces power up magic, Mr. T will destroy us with a spell.

Thanks for the tips Black Don. I'll work on em right away. Funny thing is before you even posted this I was looking at your assasin armor set for help overall with this shirt.

And ya I didn't catch that till late pateame. Maybe I can shorten one of the sleeves by a lot and make it more metaly into an archery armor (yes i know almost every other game has this) or maybe it'll end up as some accesory shirt (hopefully with a set) like the vneck, tneck, etc. This was also started to continue my practice on pixel art but at the same time i wanted to contribute something useful.

Edit: Lol at the Mr. T (Steals)

@pateame: And you mean layered over a normal cotton shirt? That could work. I'll check it out. (Looked at the Cotton Shirt and it's a bit different. Has a V cut at the neck.) Or like I said I could try changing it into something else other than a mage shirt.

That yellow is supposed to be decoration on the shirt, not gold chains, right?

In pixel art of this small scale things like that are mostly in the eye of the beholder.

That is true and I guess it would be whatever the devs wanted it to be. Personally when I was making it, I was thinking both ways. Just a design on the shirt, but when I added some lighting it started looking like gold chains. But I wouldn't think of it as gold chains like jewelry..

Edit: Here's a preview of the back, not sure if i'm gonna keep it like this.

Nice idea.
To me it looks more like a gold decoration sewed in the shirt.

Would this be tintable?
Or perhaps make later a different white version, it may look good for a light mage.

That's what it was suppose to be at the start, just a design on the shirt, so I guess we can go with that.

Dyeable? I'm not sure what I need to do to it to make it dyeable by the server. Maybe a dev/artist could fill me in or i'll browse the wiki.

And i'm probably not keeping the back that way. Taking off the gold near the top, the X shaped part. Any suggestions on what to add here? Or just keep it a plain back?

Okay so this is harder than I thought it was gonna be. Here's what I got so far. Keep in mind I haven't edited the shading and highlights with Black Don's tips so it looks a bit stiff.

I actually rather liked the previous approach, but it is up to you.

The previous approach was a bit more unusual and as such appeared more interesting to me.
