[FND] Sailing hats

Post by Black Don »

I think we never have enough hats in TMW, and a big :P to all of you that think we do.

Plus I wanted to show people how to impress with pixel art.
-you start by thinking some new that is not in the game.
-then you draw it
-then you post it here

If you can't draw then your going to have a hard time impressing people with pixel art.
That would be like me writing code that doesn't work. It doesn't help anyone including myself.

and the hats, I like to call them Skipper and Little Buddy

they are dye-able both the white and the anchor symbol

do I really need to crop the front view to a 36X36 pixel square and call by the icon Name?

Icons are 32x32, not 36x36.

I just use an old item icon from the client data, erase it clean, copy and paste new image, rename and its done. So I can never remember the size off the top of my head.

Well, I'm used to Gimp for simple tasks if it's what you're meaning.

I asked for an icon because of the well thought Fother J's notice:
Fother J wrote: *Resist* the temptation of making the [first or] death frames for hats/masks a duplicate of the item icon just to "save time".
in this thread:
http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... 319#p61319

Do you see my point better, now?
But as long as we all agree about the current ones, it's ok to me...

Another example, I wouldn't use neither the first frame, nor the last one of this sprite to make the mask icon:
http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5823

I try not to put silly comments, so try to be a bit patient with me, ok?

Have a nice day!

Re,

I've created the mantis 821 for your two new hats:

Thanks a lot for your contribution!

I have read that and I disagree with it. Making and item icon different for the sake of being different can get in the way of the most important aspect of an Icons job. Which is to be instantly recognizable.
Using a rotation tool on any pixel art is a big no no.

Hi Black Don,

I'm not intending to set pixel art's rules. ;)

Maybe an agreement should be made bout this, and the graphics guideline updated :?:
(Fother J and you have different opinion, I'm sure that a compromise could be found.)

What do you think about it?

Anyway, have a nice day.

Most non-pixel artists seriously underestimate the amount of effort going into producing even the tiniest piece of anything.

I see no problem recycling a frame for the icon: it's in the correct perspective to begin with. Why should it be different when it is on the ground?
