my suggestion: the autoban should be longer.
my suggestion: the autoban should be longer.
I don't like current people in TMW... Many beggers and spammers are here.
sometimes i use ignore system but its not enough.
spammers come back again about 1~2 days.
So i suggest: autoban should be longer.
current autoban is for 1 hour as far as i know.
i think 1 hour should be 2~3 days or 1 week or more, 1 month.
then if banning is long, spammers will stop i think.
beggers will be banned by GMs. so its not autoban...
so what i say about this, GMs should be town more.
i want your feedback.
Regards.

Re: my suggestion: the autoban should be longer.
The problem is sometimes people who get banned for spamming are not actually spammers. I am sure lots of people got auto-banned for spamming during a lag spike. I think the auto-ban should be reduced to like 15 mins.swimmy wrote:I don't like current people in TMW... Many beggers and spammers are here.

I don't think reducing ban time is good at all.Amun wrote:I think the auto-ban should be reduced to like 15 mins.

Bans given out by the server and not humans will always be short (with minor exceptions). Lag spikes can turn normal use into floods.
We're looking at more such bans to add, like to prevent the recent sit floods that have been crashing nearby clients. Such activity will get a longer ban then trade/chat spam.

I keep hearing reference to sit spam/ sit flood. What is that?

I'm pretty sure it's someone sitting up and down to fast, resulting in crashes.
~possibly there could just be a server-sided limit on sit speed?

You can only do it with a hacked client. The server ignores extra sit packets after it receives too many in a a second.
Re: my suggestion: the autoban should be longer.
OK, thx. I wasn't aware that sitting and standing repeatedly caused a problem. Not that I do it, I just didn't think it could cause lag

Without hacking the client, you can't cause much of a problem.
Re: my suggestion: the autoban should be longer.
Some progression for how many autobans you've had during the last year could be nice. For each autoban in the statistic from the last rolling year, N^2 days of ban. First three bans should not count and only be for 1 hour.

I like that idea, Rotonen. It should get worse each time. And as far as the people getting banned all the time for spamming when lag is happening, that isn't the best excuse in the world unless you're a noob. I have been in the game LOTS of times when lag is really bad and have never once been banned for anything. I don't get the people who have been banned multiple times, and yes, the punishment should get worse with each offense.

Re: my suggestion: the autoban should be longer.
As I have mentioned elswhere, I have been autobanned several times and only once was I spamming. One of those times was due to lag. I said about five things during the course of a few minutes and they all appeared at once. I think the autoban, being an autoban, is perfect as is and should not be changed. If someone does get autobanned an awful lot, a message could be sent to the GMs or something. Say more than five times a month or something.

We already get chat messages when someone gets banned by the server. Only that the number of bans doesn't show anywhere.
