I am not a fan of yaoi, but I am quite a yuri fanboy.

What is yaoi and what is yuri?

Both are quite common terms from anime/manga fandom.

Yaoi = homosexuality between male characters
Yuri = homosexuality between female characters

Some people also differ between yaoi/yuri and shonen-ai/shojo-ai where the first two terms refer to erotica and the latter terms to romantic love stories.


By the way: The main target demographic for explicit Yaoi erotica are not homosexual men how you would expect but heterosexual women.

a. it's regional, I have lots of friends who like DBZ (and I do too)
b. it's an age group thing (we're all between the ages of 24-30)
c. a little of both

And I definitely don't think it's gay (as in homosexual) because there are lots of scenes where the different male characters are VERY blatantly staring, groping, harassing the female characters.

I have a friend who works in a comic store. He told me that the most yaoi mangas are bought by girls in the age of 14. And there are many of them who buy it. I wonder why young girls like them so much.

Of course I'm talking about the japanese original version with english fansub-titles. Dubs always suck. Always.

however,saying "Dragon ball Z is gay" is not good in my opinion.It is a cool movie.Some people do those pictures to do the people think that dragon ball is gay but the company that created the movie didnt do those!

I mean sure it has a thin plot that is only there to give a premise for the 20-30 episode long fights.
Doesn't mean its gay.
Or when the villain says he is going to "give him all he's got" and the hero says "go ahead I can take it".
Whats gay about that?
Or when they shoot energy beams that have a similar shape to the male reproductive organ.
How is that gay?

Why Dragon Ball Z isn't any more gay then the sport of Bodybuilding. I mean oily guy in speedo's with all hair shaved off his body, striking poses on a stage. Whats Gay about that?

Now a person in the sport could be gay or a character in a show. Maybe an artist or writer is struggling with hidden feelings of homosexuality and it shows up in the work they do. People can be gay but a TV show can only show what people put in them. I mean calling a TV show gay is dumb and immature, I mean a tree is more likely to be gay cause it cross pollinates with other trees. So I would suggest a different adjective to describe non-living immaterial things.

Why would I worry about an anime character who's Japanese voice actor sounds like an angry smerf.
As for my feeling for the show itself, I have watched it and did find some of the visuals cool but it is laking when compared to any of the other better written anime out there.

I agree that Dragonball Z (and the rest of the Dragonball franchise) is a very badly written anime, but I am not aware of many homoerotic undertones in it. When you are searching for some really gay anime, this is a good starting point:
