RO also took the shortcut of drawing the monsters in only two directions:

Which works rather well in their freely rotated 3D environment. Could also work for us and potentially ease drawing monsters as a whole, but do we want to completely revamp our current monster scheme?

No, monsters drawn in isometric perspective would not look good in our strictly orthogonal game world.
It would not even be a net work reduction because the 33% frames you save are nullified by the additional effort it takes to draw sprites in isometric perspective instead of orthogonal.

Instead of bringing this up, we could just have swept the remark under the carpet without reacting to it as I intended.
I merely reinforced your point of "professionals take a lot of shortcuts, we should be intelligent about them too".
