I think the first animation (Seradest's) should be longer and go in and out further.

Both water animations don't look very convincing to me.

The first one lacks detail.

The second one has a clear flow direction. This is very unpractical for rivers.

One of the best water animation I know is the one from Seiken Densetsu 3. I studied it for hours but I have no idea how exactly it works.

I'm envious of your design choices.

I can create a tile for each direction(and some which just sift back and forth) so a bend in a river wouldn't be a issue I'm almost certain I can make the flow follow the river in any direction.

If anyone wishes to help they can, we mostly need pixel, concept artist, musicians, and soon mapppers (you can make anything from a small item to a sprite sheet we need it all) I'm also going to try and start organizing the project more professionally this weekend

+1

But I don't know if is me or the tree seems to be tilted to the left ?

Also I would say the shape is too round almost perfect (both) may be if you can add a small round branch at the right that would balance the shape.

That'd degrade mapping potential.

I think the tree on the right better suits the style and feel you seem to be going for better then the one on the left.

slow and painful, it being finals time and all...
but the good news is that all I need do is make one of the player sets usable and create a monster and we should have enough content to start thinking about a basic test sever.
