the grid is way to obvious in those sand tiles (manly because the dark spots)

Also forget about trying to make everything 32 by 32
"Yes, you want to make a lot of tiles reuseable, but if you maniacally try and make every last tile reusable on 32-pixel devisions, "no matter what", it can easily become a mania that ends up making your tile art look stilted and awkward.

There will always be certain things that just need to be bigger than the game's basic tile size, and trying to ram them into this requirement is a bad idea. It's the relativism that does it - it's the fact that they are big (like, say, stone archways, or trees) that makes them what they are." - Jetryl

Actually read through all of Jetryl posts (that goes for everyone)

Are you suggesting variants of each tile? Maybe this will do.

Meway: I suggest to tile at least 4 x 4 tiles of your sand tiles (sorry the redundancy) and see if you have patterns (repetitive shapes, very noticeable) and try to get rid of them, that's one of the mid-advance steps to get a nice tileset ( I had a lot of issues with that myself).

the starfish is going good, much better, I like the top left rather the one at the bottom because the dark line it looks odd. I don't know if is me or my crappy monitor, anyways if is the same the dark line is still bothering me.

As you can see they are almost the same color and shape, in fact I did try to use less colors, but see how the lights reflection works ? you don't have to do every tip the same because they are affected in different ways by the light, also the shadows create the deep effect. As I told you before the shape is perfect and you have a very nice first impression of the starfish laying on the floor.

Next step : the rocks. they look very flat, I know the stones have all kind of shapes but sometimes you have to help the eye with a shape "known" as a rock, the pillow effect confuse your eyes and you can't guess what it is, so let work ONLY with the rock now, ok ?

1. Try different shapes
2. check some pictures as inspiration (please don't try to copy any real picture or any other art)
3. is not necessary make it gray, try greenish or may be gray-green combination (some blue for deepness if is possible).
4. remember to start with just lines, if the guide lines convince you eye that "there is a rock there" then is just a matter of paint the light.

Keep the good work

its flat. it needs texture. its not 45 degree. If you want further help make a new topic don't post it here plz thanks :). Other than that it looks like a decent star graphic. You need transparency also
