I did not know where to write this, I wrote here because I thought that in a good section, if it was a bad section please move.
I made a small tutorial for new userów who want to learn how to make a good sword (pixel-art).
#1
Make a lineart (outline).
#2
Use grey color to shade a sword (if you want, you can to shade sword yellowish grey color)
#3
Use some colors to shade cross-guard.
@Hint: If you have a problem,use inner AA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aliasing).
#4
Use some colors to shade grip, but remember grip should not be thick.
@Hint: If you have a problem with shade grip, use a hint in 3 step.
If it could be useful to write a couple of other tutorials:)
Ps.Sorry i just pasted a picture but I had a rest and I did not have time to write an explanation.

Re: Tutorial: Sword#1
Thanks for the initiative. But I think it would be more helpful for newbies when you would write some words about what you are doing in each phase and most of all why you are doing it.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
Re: Tutorial: Sword#1
Yes, having more tutorials around here is a very good idea.
Why the black outline?

Re: Tutorial: Sword#1
2. Use darker colour to fill one side of edge and lighter one to other side. Middle line should be the lightest.
3. Pick cold colour different than gray, eg. blue. Use opacity 15% to add some shadings.
4. Pick warm colour and add some highlights
5. Use 2 similar colours to draw hilt
6. Add some details
7. Adjust blade colour (duplicate blade layer, add colourize, set mix options and opacity, merge layers)
8. Pick white, set opacity 15% and add some highlights where needed
9. Add shadow (duplicate layer, ctrl+A, Shift+L, drag black on it, move it 1 px down, set layer opacity 15%)
~10. Just a preview on background other than white/transparent.
Re: Tutorial: Sword#1
I tried to make a mallet using this tutorial. Wasn't able to make it as correct as I would have liked.
Edit: Tried a hammer also.
