[GIT] Wyvern (new monster : some flying snake)

Post by arikel »

Remembering a monster from my favourite game of all times (FTL's Dunjeon Master), i wished to make a manaworld version of it, and started to work on a right side view animation. I'd need advice about pretty much everything about it i guess : the shape, the animation, the texture and the shading...
I used pure red and green for it to be dyeable, colors are not supposed to be these ones (or at least not these two together like that) on a monster in game. I'm also thinking about having some transparency on the wings on the final version.

The animation is nice, but those colors need to go (lower the sat some or something)

I think he is using recolorable palettes.

The animation looks good but the wings need some work.

Animation really good... But it should be some more brighter and some more pinker...

Please read. He said he's making it dyeable. If he changed saturation or made it pinker, that'd be lost.

I was under the impression that grayscale is utilized for that

Gray scale or the 6 pure primary and secondary colors (of light) are usable. In other terms: no saturation or full saturation and hue divisible by 60 (in both cases the value is the component used in the dye equations). So, we have 7 channels for dyeing.

When you have further questions about the dye system please read the wiki article about it.

First tests of a front view animation.
What kind of work do wings need? shape? animation? I'm not happy about both yet, but i couldn't come up with anything really better so far. I've tried a new wing shape for the front view, but i'm not convinced by that one either.
For the colors used, sorry for the ugly pure tones and the misunderstanding they brought up. After i've worked on the texturing a bit i'll post some example tests of coloring that can be applied so that it looks better.

That was my failure to read the entire post...

Process and methods are on topic, I was wondering if it might be more advantageous to paint it normally and then attempt to make it work with the dye system. Rather than work within the restrictions of pure colors? (color theory is important)

It's mostly the shape that bothers me. It's too geometrically. Too much based on straight lines.

I finished the front and back animation, and added some texture to the body. I tested another wing shape, but i'm not happy about it, so i didn't texture the wings much yet.
Here are some quick examples of recoloring that could be used.
