Re: [BAN] Xananthium banned for botting
Dear Katze,
I apologize for what occurred early this morning my time. I leave my attack key taped down so my "w-a-s-d" fingers don't get tired while I move my character around trying to level. Unfortunately, I was up until 3am PST that I can recall before I passed out at my keyboard. I truly apologize for what happened after that. In that sense, I was technically at my keyboard, however unconscious. I was non-responsive and I understand clearly how it appeared now that I have read the forums on botting.
I am truly sorry and I have really enjoyed TMW a lot since I joined 5 days ago. I can promise I will never allow this situation to occur again and I would greatly appreciate it if I were able to forbear the complete level reset as I was physically present, just not mentally awake. ie a partial level reset, or none at all preferably. My chair is pretty uncomfortable, and my sore back may very well be punishment enough, lol.
Also, would a level reset all reset my equipment? I worked very hard to acquire all of it.
Again, I am very sorry, I don't want to break rules and until now I thought I was doing a great job following them. Please show a little mercy before passing further judgement on my mistake.
There should be a photo here but I've never done a photo in html. *Crosses fingers*

Re: [BAN] Xananthium banned for botting
Dear Xanathium,
the thing is that most people just made mistakes like falling asleep at the keyboard or just forgetting to take away that stuff from the keyboard. But that's not a sufficient explanation and the full reset is already the milder punishment. You, like everybody else, get a second chance with the reset level. Your items will stay intact. The next time of botting the character would be completely blocked and not accessible again.
So please contact one of us GMs in-game with a different account so we can reset your level.
Regards,
Katze

Dear Katze,
I understand your position on my mistake and I accept that there must be punishment. I would appreciate it if you would take a look at this quote below from a post in August in 2009 regarding rules, punishment, and botting I found in the forums. I would be extremely grateful if I could take a half level reduction instead of the full reset. If such a compromise is not acceptable, I will respect your decision.
As I wasn't using any malicious codes or scripts (not that I have any idea how to make or use such things) it is likely that such an exception may apply to my situation. This incident was by no means a habit I intend to continue and I promise it will never happen again as I am fully aware I can be permanently banned. Please take it into consideration if possible before making your final judgement. Again, I truly appreciate still getting to play as well as keeping my inventory.
Thank you for your quick response.

I think you need to read the rules again.
Now violating anyone one of these rules will get you in trouble. But there is not hard, written in stone, punishment system.platyna wrote:Well, time to set some rules:
1. Do not abuse other players (it means insults, swearing etc. directed to a particular person/s)
2. No bots (and by botting I mean ANY AFK activity in game).
3. No spamming/flooding (including trade spam).
4. No begging.
5. Speak English on public chat.
6. RFC 1855.
But let us look at number 2. In the first few years of this game, scripting was not possible, so a two tiered system was used, ban withe reduction, and just ban without reduction.
This was based on intent of the botter. If it was just a mistake, ie fell asleep or was reading the news, then it was a reduction of levels. If it happen twice it showed it was a habit and permanent ban.
When the script kiddies came out, scripting showed it was habitual and intentional. It can not be a mistake that your character is scripted to avoid the rules of botcheck. So it is permanent ban.
But punishment is, and always should be, up to the gm in the case. If the gm sees intent to avoid the botchecking system, it has to be a permanent ban. And this is what we see in this case, lollkiller as admitted using the program. Case is closed, sorry to everyone here.
Now about attacking platyna, please do not do that. I am asking nicely.
Re: [BAN] Xananthium banned for botting
Well...DarkWater has never been a GM in tmw, so what she says can basically not be called evidence however right she might be. And I do think you have misunderstood something about what she said. A reduction of levels has always been a full reset since anything else was impracticable. Further, the regulation about how to punish so-called botting is the only strictly set punishment. If you don't respond to a bot-checking GM - whatever your reason - you will be banned for botting.

Dear Katze,
Thank you for looking into what I had found on my own. At only 5 days old to this game, I assure you there is a lot I don't know and much I won't understand even by doing my own research.
It is understood and accepted that my punishment will be a full reset.
Thank you very much for your consideration in this sentence. I will not be a an issue you need to address again.
Sincerely,
Xananthium

Re: [BAN] Xananthium banned for botting
I'm generally nice all around.
Sadly though, I don't consider myself a botter since scotch tape isn't really "script or malicious code" nor do I have any idea how to create or implement such devices as I'm a newbie not only to TMW but to Ubuntu in general. I'll stop using the tape method anyway and make darned sure to log out next time I feel like I'm falling asleep at the keyboard just to be extra cautious.
TMW is my first mmorpg and at only 5 days playing, I know I'll regain the ground I lost quickly. Furthermore, I just don't believe in arguing with the stewards of any online game or service provided for free. Those who can't accept the the consequences of either their actions or inactions don't deserve to use such services in the first place.
On the bright side, I was smart to spend the first five days making lots of money so I would have some great EQ and I've already gotten back to level 25 since the reset, over half of what I was to begin with.

I understand the definition. I'm just glad to be able to play. The semantics of the situation are in the past now and unimportant to me. What matters now is that I make sure not to repeat the same mistake.

well you might not be a 'botter' per se, but you were botting. And i'm sorry, but the rules are the rules. I would expect no less from our GM's if it was me in your position.xananthium wrote:I'm generally nice all around.

Dear BC,
Thank you for your encouragement. If I can't find what I'm looking for in the wiki, I will be sure to consult you. I will be a denizen in TMW that others can look up to.
