Crush I love the idea...I was a little disappointed that Elbereth was not written in the dust =]
maybe we could scratch it on a wall later...

Who or what is Elbereth and why would you expect it there?

Don't worry, nobody expects anything from you.

Here it is. Also showing wall and doorway design. I didn't want to use a chess motif for the walls too because that would have been a bit too much.

What worries me a bit is that the whole tileset seems to come out very monochromatic so far. I only used shades of gray with zero saturation. Anything else would be inappropriate for the chess motifs, so I need something else to bring some temperature into the tileset. Maybe some polished mahogany wood elements?

The fact that it's monochromatic doesn't bother me. What I'm more worried about is: if this is floating in space like the front implies (which is cool), what are the left and right edges going to look like?

Maybe you could do it more thin, and adding some accessories to it too. It's meant to be an ennemy, you can add some iron spike on the sides and maybe a fire animation on the well. Could be a kind of attack animation, when he touchs you, you get burned, and hitted.
Also, grind on this map is of 32x32 size, you can so use the playersprite size as base.
