It depends on what's your level and your stats, if you're at the beginning of the game. You probably aren't mage, and archer at a low level isn't really useful. Then, with some warrior stats, see if you don't miss them when you try to hit them. If you miss, add more points in dexterity (you can reset your status points with Malivox, he's on the map just in south of Tulimshare center). Then, when you're able to hit giant maggots, try to hit them at the limit on where you can hit them. This way, you'll be able to hit the maggot, and it won't be able to hit you. Of course, as the maggot moves, you'll have to move to and to hit, before that it hits you.

However, don't hesitate to ask other people for help. If there are not enough in Tulimshare, don't hesitate to ask via private message. That's easy if you play on manaplus client because you've an online list.

You can buy arrows in the shop in Hurnscald (in one of the houses), in Nivalis you can buy iron arrows, but if you are in Tulimshar the closes place to buy them is to enter map south from Tulim, and than east to Snake desert. It's very dangerous place, so watch out. Head south east till you get to cave enterence. There are 2 NPCs. Talk to NPC George.

I advise all to buy arrows at Snake desert because they cost just 1 GP per arrow and not 2 GP like in Hurnscald. I would also advise all to buy always as much as you can for the moment so that you do not have to run all the time at this place to buy them.

To me it's better to start archery at level about 30, especially when you've got the forest bow. But i agree that, even at a low level, with adapted stats, you can hunt what you want with archery. Personnally, that's the class i prefer.
However, i haven't thought about it because i was focused on the forest bow for archery, but with a bow i think that you could easily kill giant maggots. All that you need is enough dexterity and a high enough level.
For archer stats, i personnally set 10 in agility and 10 in vitality at the beginning, and i increase only dexterity, up to about 90. Then, i continue with increasing agility, and using speed skill. The problem with those stats are that you've to not be hit at all if you're alone or without any healer around.

The best place to buy arrows is in Tulimshare Desert. To see the seller, go on the map south of Tulimshare Town Square, then head east. On the map in east, head south-east. You'll see two men below a cliff. One of these men sells regular arrows 1 gp/each. This is the only seller who sells it at this price. If you've difficulties to stay alive while buying, just talk to him being on the cliff. It's the only seller who sells arrows at this prices, others sells it at 2 gp/each. That's a big difference when you buy 30,000 of them...
I'd also advice you to avoid using other arrows, because they aren't really better, especially if you consider the prices they cost. But if you're rich, why not after all ?
