A quick translation of the about file included with the game.

=== About MDD 2D ===

MDD 2D ( Mundo dos Dragões - World of the Dragons ) is a trial to develop an innovating and fun MMORPG. MDD 2D uses 2D graphics and is intended to test concepts previously relegated while waiting for a 3D client. MDD 2D é licensed the same way as it base engine (The Mana World - themanaworld.sourceforge.net), this is, GPL.

We will try to differentiate from the base engine in any way possible, and we will develop our own ideas, and will use it [the client] until the 3D client is ready to support online players, we will try to launch versions as often as our availability and the comunity contribution allows.

I hope everyone enjoys this initiative.

Interesting. So the guy didn't copy from TMW but from Mundo dos Dragoes (another TMW fork).

I think we should act on the GPL violations at some point.

Doesn't SF provide any services for that?

heheh, i never see this game before ... this is a type of stupid guy, than can win some things with the our work, my project, MDD 2D, uses the minimal things of tmw, like the basic playerset, some icons, and some mobs, but we created many contents, all maps are create by us, the quests/scripts, and we working in one original playerset, mobs, items, etc. We are making a Client 3D and Server from a scratch, and the TMW is for our testing purposes, and concept ideas. The TMW is a great project, and MDD 2D is for GPL 2 too.

I tried to contact this guy, but without success. But i think this type of guy don't can be create a good thing ... but he HAVE to put the sourcecode of project with de client, like we do.

Being a developer myself, I would be irritated if somebody was abusing the terms of the GNU GPL. However, that's not to say that whoever this person is hasn't abused the GPL.

As the TMW moderators have stated, the game is uninspired. Anybody who just takes a game, changes a few things here and there and calls it their own is doomed to never be recognized by the gaming (or open-source community) which to me is a fate worse than death.

But that's just me... :)

Well when it comes to a point where TMW is out of dev stage I would think that would be the best time to address this issue.
