The difference is that when christmas is only at christmas, they would decorate in a way that they can remove it quickly when christmas is over. And I think there arent really much people that are willing to replace a whole fence just for the christmas decoration. Instead they would add things like those christmaslights etc to the fence. They can be removed easly when christmas is over.
What if a couple of houses went this far at Christmas, and most stayed with just minor decorations?
One might stay like this all-year round, which could be used for directions by questgivers.

"Could you get Rauk to mix some paint for me? I painted my fence for christmas, and it ought to go brown again."

That's a pretty good idea. I'll work on some minor decorations later.

Here's a more logical version (The fence and pillars are painted to look like candy canes in accordance to Octalot's paint quest idea):

Sorry, but the modified versions have not really improved. The perspective is still wrong. I have drawn a rough sketch for illustration:

According to Rotonen, QOAL, and Octalot it is correct. Btw, on the fence the snow is covering what would be the flat top of the cylinder.

Those images show the sugar canes from straight on, not from a 45° angle. Saphys illustration is correct.

AFAIR I said closer to the truth.

Please keep going. We can still use it this year.

Better to put it on suspend instead of forcing yourself on it.

True. I think we can use it as is.

Can: yes.

Should: no.

(I guess it is actually up to the current snow area quality standards, but...)
